@jcoutou1 I haven't I don't trust their claims. Sure they're visually spot on but I won't even touch the Squiers. I don't mind cheaper stuff but to me the Tele should be swamp ash or alder. Not basswood or pine. At the minimum I'd go with the MIM line and down the road swap the hardware, pickups, neck and rewire it. Someone here alluded to the new standards as being bulletproof and that has been a world away from my experience. I've owned three telecasters all of them American made and for the exception of the custom one from NYguitars I've had nothing but problem after problem whether it's the output jack or shitty necks. Very happy with what I have now and I dread the day I decide I want to get another and go through the headache again.

Sort of off topic, but I just did up my 2009 Fender Mex Strat. Reset the neck, intonation, deburred the saddles, set the break angle a little softer, set up the tremolo (Took one of the springs off, 4 springs is overkill - 3 is nice), got the action right (for me, I like it a little higher than most).
Forgot what an awesome guitar a Strat is. So nice to play and it sounds great.
I have a Squier VM Jazzmaster and while the neck isn't the smoothest to play on, it's a great sounding guitar. The tremolo sounds beautiful, though it really does need some home-brew DIY to get the thing gig worthy. Literally one of those guitars you plugged it in and everyone went "Woah, that's a great sounding guitar! How much was that?". Wouldn't hesitate to buy Squier again, but I'd advise anyone squeamish of dismantling a new guitar to stay away as mine did have a teething stage.

With all those cheap asian knockoffs, if you wish to improve the tone, you need to replace more than pickups. You need to gut the electronics and use proper pots, wiring and caps too!
The best decent strat and tele copies are assembled from parts you can buy from online suppliers such as American, Mighty Mite, Stew-Mac etc.

I pretty much did everything on the CV Tele, pickups, bridge, 4 way switch. I left the pots (full size and fine) and the wiring. Tuners do what tuners do and don't slip so no issue there either. Body is a single piece of Alder and I really like the neck. Obviously I did some cosmetic changes, pick guard etc...

So I ended up running into a heck of a deal on a clean MIM strat. I also bought a Les Paul at the same time so I could get a nice discount for the two. All I can say is that sometimes the used gear at GC can be a good deal and the employees can do you solids if you are nice to them.
