How difficult is it to build these op amps? I'm still torn on the VP26 vs 28 situation. I worried about the difficulty of the build on the 28's and the extra op amp. Paying for prebuilt op amps significantly increases the cost of the preamps, especially on the 28 since it needs a pair. Maybe I should buy a 26 and build it as a practice run for the 28. I'm sure that if I successfully build a 26, I could get it sold for cost and buy a 28. Maybe I'll go that route. What do people charge to build them?

BTW - I now have more tools... True sign of ones manhood, who has the most tools. This from the guy who isn't a contractor rents a loft and owns to Bosch SDS demolition hammer drills!

Unbuilt GAR pairs are $35, built GAR pairs are $120, built red dots are $130.

if someone is really wanting one of Jeff's preamps but is intimidated by building it hit me up, I'd be willing to put them together for board members at a pretty good price. Ain't afraid of building those op-amps either. Built 4 VP28s, 2 VP25s, Hairball, Analog Allstars, JLM, recapped vintage console, done custom studio wiring installs...lots of hours with the soldering iron

Realize this is an old thread but I've been ghosting around studying up and I just ordered a VP25 as my first CAPI build. That means I will have 2 VP28's 4 VP26's and 1 VP25 along with my 3 Daking 500 pre's Can't wait to dig in. Soldering is good therapy for me and after the holidays I could use some therapy.

Yeah...you can hire me whenever, Jeff I've inquired a time or two! I'm ready to move down to nashville PRONTO. Tired of this Chicago cold. I offered my services as a kit parts sorter back when he was a couple towns over in Tinley Park. Maybe one day! Can’t wait to get away from Chicago (south suburbs), and move back to the Nashville area!
