Just pre-ordered 3 of the Phoenix DRSQ4 MKII with ZenProMod. Excited about the idea of a little Phoenix Audio 'sidecar'

Got some new knobs for my AML 5003D. Not terribly exciting I know, but I do like the feel of an all aluminum knob better than plastic. It all started when I received the original preamp (direct from AML) and one of the knobs was cracked. That made it loose and I was unable to tighten it because of the crack. I think it got damaged in shipping or maybe just overtightened in assembly. Anyway, I've had different knobs on it ever since. But when I picked up a second, I thought they should match. That's when my search led me to Stompboxparts.com. These are the "small solid aluminum" knobs. I got some in purple too but kinda liked the red. I could have just gone with boring black I suppose. Anyway, they do feel better when adjusting.

I bought an EMT 140. What’s wrong with me. But, they don’t come up for sale too often at a price I can afford so I thought “why not”
I also traded a Stratocaster for a Ford Ranger pick up truck…it needs a little love but I need something for some projects around the house and it’ll come in handy!

This took awhile, but Eric and Dave at Heiserman were super cool about keeping me updated. They have had a lot going on in their personal lives that caused some delays. Nothing serious, just colds and shit that takes us all out now and then. First stop is a female Latin pop star I'm not familiar with that my buddy's doing some vocal sessions with in the next few days. He randomly pinged me the day it was to be delivered to ask if I had mine. Her management company wanted the 251 option so it's with him for a few days. If I get clearance clarence after the sessions I'll report back on who the artist is. The build quality is stunning and can't wait to use it myself and hear my friend's work with it.

Ok, my Jet. The top is a drum wrap. Also the little one watt Marshall head I picked up only has a 16 ohm out and my cabs are 8 ohm. Most things I have read suggest running it into my cab shouldn’t be a problem. Not ideal perhaps, but probably won’t blow it up. Thoughts? Cheers, Geoff

Cheers, Geoff It shouldn’t, speakers rated impendance is always “ nominal” the actual load is all over the place depending on frequency. So a nominal 8 ohm speaker is all over the place. Decent amp and transformer designers take this into account, so the 16ohm tap on a particular amp may in fact be a better choice for a nominal 8 ohm cab depending on design choices and the actual load.

I listened to the Impedance talk by Paul Wolff and Roger Cloud. I was inspired and it made sense but i have probably forgotten 1/2 of it by now. I wanted to order the CLoudlifter Zi unit so I could hear the effects on my vintage Ribbon mics. I was quite impressed at the tonality changes that it makes to these ribbon mics. It was like tailoring the signal before it was recorded. I previoously had another Chinese unit and was not happy with that at all. But this having a Cinemag transformer I thought the quality of the unti should be reasonable. I did open the unit up to take. apeak inside and now I am not so sure the signal is actually using the Transfroemr to change impredence but some other proces sis taking place. But I am not electrically engineered intelligent to know what is happening. But my ears are.And I do like what I am hearing waaaayyyyy more then the Magnetronics or whatever brand that other unit was. You can hear the proximity effect /bass reduce and the sound get a little thinner and you can hear the weight of the signal changing as you engage the Impedance knob to your liking. I think this is a must before reaching for your EQ knob with ribbon mics. I will be looking forward to testing this a lot mor ein the future with some dynamic mics that need some gain. Attachments:

The last couple weeks have been pretty crazy for me gear wise through trades, some sweet used deals and some new stuff… -Jamracks mastering desk and stands -Audeze LCD-X -IK ARC Studio -Beesneez B67-269 ver 2 -Pair of Locomotive WT-72’s Extremely happy with each of these and feel like I’ve finally completed my ‘needs’ list…until GAS convinces me otherwise.

J Rockett: Silver Archer, Clean Archer, Dude MXR: Carbon Copy, Hybrid Fuzz, chorus Boss: Blues Driver Wazacraft Dunlop: Clyde Wah pedal Various boards, power supplies, and cabling.
There are more and will have to look and see what all they are. I am putting together a couple of boards with one being used for my duo where I play some electric guitar and need to cover a lot of classic 70s sounds.

Bought a GE 6072A for my Upton 251. Not my favorite purchase, pretty expensive, but a nice improvement on a sound I was already pleased with.

Little Labs Monotor to take to the studio to use with my Audeze LCD-5’s…and for clients so they don’t have to check mixes on the Hearback mixers (not the greatest)

They will either love you or bar you from within a 1/4 mile, that thing slays almost everything out there.

Wurlitzer 200a NO.2 haha! So I bought a Wurlitzer a couple of months ago but then I found a mint one. One owner since 1972, they even got the original recite. Condition is like 9.5/10. So I sold my "old" Wurlitzer to a friend and bought this one. I paid a bit more then the first one, which I still sold with profit so its all good!

Over the past few months I’ve become really attached to my Audeze headphones…I was mixing at the studio this weekend and the whole time wish I had them. After years of struggling with speakers at home I’m feeling confident I don’t need them there so I’m sort of looking forward to taking down the treatment and just having a regular basement someday!

Loved / Hated my Wurlies. Including the tube one from the early 60's that was made out of particle board and the cheapo plastic ones from the late 70's. Loved the sound, hated the breakdowns and maintenance. I do miss them though.... But not enough to buy another. LOL. At least they didn't break my foot like the Rhodes did....
