I purchased a used Heritage 4 channel 500 series rack and have filled it (500 OCD), with used essentials for my home studio recording : Radial x-amp, Chop Shop black, Moog Ladder & Drawmer 101. Thankfully i never bought the API 10 rack that was listed at the same time as the 4 channel rack.. Still would have liked an old API 550 or A but they seem to have all disappeared..

I've just received my Audio Scape Buss Compressor from Chris: Audio Scape Buss CompressorWow this thing rocks!!! Years ago I compared AML 2254 clones against Waves V-Comp and hardware won hands down. Same happened with DIY Dual Solid State Pultec against many Pultec emulation plugins And now VCA compressor from Audio Scape...It smashes every plugin you can imagine. Using plugins is difficult not to stare at the screen but I really don't care about GR meter on hardware, just tweak it until it sounds good...and I've tried it to sound bad but I just cannot

The bastards at BLINQ sent me an open box item where the USB connection doesn't work at all. So unfortunately this one is already going back.
Does sound really good though. I'm going to listen to it for a while before I tape it back up.
Edit: Very likely going to buy one brand new to replace this. Sound is impeccable. Big improvement over the Pro Ject S2. Only barely a difference in cost. They don't seem to ship from the US however so that means a couple weeks or something of waiting for it to show up. That's why I tried my luck with this US eBay store.

It looks like everyone selling the Topping is a hack.. Amazon seems to stock them directly from the manufacturer, but I still think it's overseas shipping from what I can tell. You can also get them brand new on eBay from China but the shipping time seems to be all over the place. And if you want to ship it back to China... yikes I don't like the sound of that.

That's why I tried my luck with this US eBay store. Windows Only? No remote. It's extra with model It's supposed to work with Windows or Mac OS. Yes remote is about $20-25 extra if you need or want it with the DX7S. To add to my mini-review above. The Topping gets the dynamics and frequency response right. This is where the Pro Ject S2 fell short for me (Pro Ject is kind of dark sounding on the top with not enough slam on transients, not enough teeth on the treble). The Topping is indistinguishable from my Presonus Quantum in terms of frequency and dynamic response. Where it really show's what it's capable of is when you listen for detail, separation, and sound stage, where the Topping is more realistic, microscopic, and huge sounding, when the music gets huge. A quiet Thom Yorke vocal is more emotionally involving, a loud Thom Yorke vocal seems to balloon in the audio image. You can hear micro-details in the arrangement, and stuff like the snap of the kick drum beater, birds in the background of Aphex Twin, stuff like that. AC/DC is just as in your face as it ever has been. Sea Change sounds big and punchy. Plugging the Quantum back in, things get a little smaller again, and somehow just a little more boring. I could hear problems in some of my rough mixes that I knew were there, but I wasn't sure "where" I think this will help me to solve some of my mixing problems along the way. Sort of like having the right prescription of glasses or something. Just the ability to hear clearly is enhanced. It's pretty impressive. I guess I'm gonna sit tight for a couple weeks and hope that another one magically shows up (haha) well I'll try to get another one anyway.

Picked up this new Tom Anderson Crowdster the other day. I've had a couple of the plus versions with the electric pickup in the bridge position over the years when I was playing out quite a bit, and have always wanted one with just the acoustic pickup.

Hairball FET/Rack Revision A. Next I need to buy some more racks (and hook this stuff up) If I could sell some damn drums I’d have space and would finish my basement remodeling so I can use it!

Stop buying drums! Lol! I have the same problem! Ohh look at that kit!!!! I got to have it!!!! I have room for one more kit!!! Oh, and that kit needs it's own set of cymbals and hardware! What's the flavor of the year? Um, let me see here... Paiste? Zildjian? Sabian? Meinl? Bosphorus? SoulTone? LOL! Yes, it is a bad sickness. One part of the studio thrives while the other parts suffer, I'm always trying to not be distracted by circular objects that shine! So distracting those drums are...damnit!

I make part of my living buying and selling, so that doesn’t work for me! I’ve seen so much stuff come through my door but there’s only a few things I regret selling; mostly somewhat rare drums

Let's try this again... Seller was eBay username "wsz0304" and the profile pic says "Shenzhen Audio Store." That is the legit way to acquire a topping DAC. It was also on discount! They shipped it to me from China in exactly 6 days from the time of my order, through DHL international shipping. Immediately works as it is supposed to when plugged in. That store BLINQ was a shady business of shipping out defective returns and so on. Do not order from BLINQ. Output is a few dB quieter than my Presonus Quantum on the balanced outputs. Maybe there is no standard for line outs level, I have no idea. Sounds incredible. Would be worth buying even just for the headphone sound.

I'm not sure if you'd consider it "gear" exactly, but I recently was the recipient of about 30 reels of 3M 996 2" tape, plus a few reels of assorted Ampex for free. I'm not real excited about the Ampex, as in my experience it has lots of problems with sticky shed that I don't want to deal with, but to date I've never had a bad reel of 996, so I'm pretty happy about that. Have not had a chance to check it for wear and splices, but I'm told that there should be plenty that's in good shape. With the cost of tape these days it's score - new 2" runs around $300-$350 a reel from most dealers and Tape-Tape in LA is getting about 90 bucks a reel for used one-pass 996! Last time I bought from them about 2-3 years ago it was around $70, IIRC.
The Ampex will probably get stripped for the reels...

Apogee Symphony MKII 2x6 SE Mastering Edition. I didn't like my Symphony MKI but I love this thing. Like a good vintage Neumann all of the hyped harshness is not there. Just a full, detailed, and yet musical reference of what goes in. Super happy about this purchase. Almost did the JCF AD8 but I'm completely satisfied with this SE edition. And I'm tracking my piano with two Neumann KM84 through a Neve DPD which lets me hop in with another 2 channels of digital inputs. Attachment Deleted

1600 capacitors and a new Hakko 301 desoldering gun. Wore out the Hakko 808 after 5 years and 100s of DIY projects. The Hakko 301 is great improvement over the 808. The caps are for the Harrison MR3 console rebuild. Going to keep me busy at night. 10 Harrison PP1 input modules with the famous 32c E.Q.s 5 - PP1 master modules for spare parts. Had Jim Williams mod the audio cards for the Otari MTR 10 Half track recorder. It sound amazing. Doing tape transfers. Like new Tascam DA 30 MKII. I Replaced the belts.
