Well, $10,000 just came out of the reserves for a very important piece of gear. It has 1 huge sapphire and about 65 little diamonds and an 18K white gold band. But it had to be done... A bedazzled Fairchild?!? Cool. Would that be Destiny's Fairchild?

Damn, ericn you are killing it today! $10,000 buys you a lot of jokes. In the case of Jewlery $10,000 gets you out of a fair amount of trouble! Or as my wife reminds me every year her insurance supports my legal $12,000 a year narcotics bill! 😎

Today I'm getting an 882i Sonic Maximizer from BBE. If it's good enough for Blackbird Studios, LOL... I like it on synthesizers so far, as first use. I hear at blackbird sometimes they use it parallel to a drum track.
The deal was too good to pass on, and it's brand new.

I've been on an acoustic hunt. Played dozens in the last few weeks. I had no idea what "VTS" was (or torrefaction in general) and probably would have rolled my eyes at it if I'd just read some ad copy. But one particular Martin HD-28 I picked up, the second I strummed an open G, knocked my socks off. I thought, "Holy shit, what is going on with this HD-28? This is a special guitar." Looked at the tag and noticed that it was an HD-28 "VTS". Didn't really think much of it, other than a mental note that that particular guitar was amazing. Week later at another shop, I picked up another what I thought was standard HD-28 and went "my goodness, I think I'm just an HD-28 man because this thing is also amazing." Sounded like an unobtanium, pre-war, ridiculous auction type guitar. Dry, woody, incredibly balanced, just a little squish to the transients but so much projection and body on tap if you dig in. Looked at the tag, "VTS" again. So I finally looked up the whole VTS/torrefied top thing. Count me a believer. After playing a bunch of iterations of 28's, as well as Hummingbirds (I had mostly narrowed it down to these two), I went back to that first HD-28 VTS that I'd played and took 'er home this evening.
Every hour or so I think, "dude, you're overblowing how awesome this guitar is..." and I go back down to the studio and have to pick my jaw off the floor when I play it.

I've been on an acoustic hunt. Played dozens in the last few weeks. The guitar looks purdy and sounds like she's a real keeper tone wise...did some reading up on the vts from the Martin site...hmm.. who knows...anyway I too am in the hunt... I'm contemplating one of the new American made guilds...but its hard to keep my eye off the second hand market.

Just scored a used Metric Halo LIO8+4 for a startling price -- sometimes I get lucky on the Bay. Been wanting one since they came out. I've had a 2882 since forever. The DA is noticeably better on the LIO.

I'm contemplating one of the new American made guilds...but its hard to keep my eye off the second hand market. Yeah no doubt. I don't know if I would have bought the VTS concept any other way (though there's no reason not to, the cellular structure doesn't give a shit about my reaction to ad copy ). As it was though, two separate guitars stopped me in my tracks immediately upon strumming them and they were both the VTS version. That's the only reason I even came to know about it. There aren't many sub $4k Martins with the VTS top. It's usually been reserved for the "authentic" or whatever it is very pricy lines. I think GC/Musician's Friend is the only place that has a VTS version of the HD-28 (which is already a lovely guitar without the VTS top). But yeah. I've been playing for 25ish years now and owned/played a pretty big heap of dreads. This thing raised my eyebrows at first touch. If you see one, give it a play.

3D printed Blumlein mount for Sennheiser MKH30's. Also use it for native B-format ambisonic work with an added omni in the middle. And mid-side figure 8, which is same as Blumlein, but I find easier to steer at close range, in the free field. 2 more short boom stands, some stand counterweights, some more Rycote shock mounts, more Rycote double mic clips.... I believe it was just lifting the leg of a cap on the board... Anybody know about this?

Check out my new guitar!! My brother named him Ivan. I can't stop myself from picking it up. All I have to do to it are a few tweaks. I'm going to stick a Dimarzio PAF Pro in the neck position, add a tone control, and I think that will be it!

I got an Echoplex EP-3 and a Univox EC-80 for cheap...but I think the odds of them both fully working are slim.
After the holidays I'm going to do some gear swapping and try to improve the workflow at the studio (AKA wiring, another studio rack. and another patchbay). Right now it's functional but it could be better, it's just that it's about the least fun thing to do.
