Late 60's Rogers Holiday 20x14, 12x8, 12x8, and 14x14. Also trade another pedal for a Boss CE-2. I love chorus. I've been on the search for a 14x14 rogers floor tom for quite some time and cant find one that is actually reasonably priced. Hows it sound?! Did not buy it, but someone decide to "store" a (70s?) Rogers kit at the studio recently. Seems like a worthy addition.

I concur with the Rogers poster i use a 60's sparkle holiday kit usually the most, i find it very musical to record (if that makes sense).
Anyway, i sold off a couple of vintage outboard pieces and so far have purchased a much needed Coles 4038 and an old funky Iron Butterfly fuzz wah.

In action at Saint John Studio on a hot Friday afternoon in eternally sunny Arizona. New gear includes PMC twotwo 8s + Sub 2, a Millenia TCL-2, a pair of Distressors, a second Heritage 2264JR, a GAP Comp 2a, and an ART Pro VLA2. It's all good. Now if I could learn how to use it all, it would be even better!

It can get a little woolly when pushed hard but so does the STA. It has been drafted into parallel comp duty on the lead vocal at mix running 5-10db of gain reduction and it levels the signal nicely in this supporting role. I don't think I'll ever use it for tracking but I'm not even using the STA for that right now. My new philosophy is: track naked. No EQ, no compression, just microphone and preamp into the converter. Get good level and tonality going in. I'm going to upgrade/change the tubes per GAP's guidelines. I'll post my opinion about it when that happens. And I'm not equating the Comp 2a to the STA - they are in different leagues but in my opinion both are useful tools. I would not let a YouTube video sway my purchase decision too much on any piece of gear. I say: try it, you might like it. Or not. You can always return the thing if you go through a reputable dealer.

Won a blackface LA-4 on the Bay. Got it for old La3a prices, so mad I didn't grab a 3a when they were cheaper.
Have a Stam SA-4000 coming this month.
A pair of CA-250 kits, 3 band Sontec clones.

A friend turned me onto the Magneto Audio Labs Variohm, a neat little passive box that gives you the choice of changing the impedance relationship between a microphone and a preamp. The choices are...50, 200, 300, 500, 1.2k, 2.4k ohms. It is a half wide 1 RU with a bypass, phantom power on/off switch and phase. My Warm Audio Tonebeast gives me choices of 160 and 600 ohm, but none of the other preamps I have offer this change. I will do some experimenting with my dynamic mics. It should be fun. I got it for only 69- bucks whereas I have seen it everywhere else on offer for 299-. I think that they made a mistake, but I'm cool with that.

That's cool, I used to have fun messing with impedance on my UA Solo preamps... haven't done that in a while.

Some more Rogers drum. 20x14, 15x12, with a 6 lug snare. Found a matching 12"x8" rack tom and even a snare that matches the fade a bit better too today for cheap. A little bit of project, but should clean up nice enough. These earlier eagle badge Rogers drums have really flat bearing edges, pretty different sound than the 60's stuff.

So I have a wood floor in the studio where the monitor stands go... turns out that the sound anchor stands I purchased aren't fully functional unless I purchase another $150 worth of what they call Cone coasters for my stands.. Apparently the stands uses screws to lock into carpet and help decouple well if I don't use Cone coasters I won't receive the full benefits of this stand ... So frustrating and of course I find this out as I got to out my stands up smh this feels like a never ending saga ... yes this was communicated as well when I spoke with all three companies VK, Barefoot, and Sound Anchor.. of course SA won't have stock of these for at least another business week or 7-10 days ... FML and SMFH 🤦♂️😞 Who is your guy at VK? Sounds like you've had some trouble over there... Id personally be reaming him out or would have a manager giving me The works at this point. Either way... Get those speakers up and running. Who gives a damn if they arent properly decoupled yet. Throw some noise through em!!! If only there was a salesperson here on RGO.

Soyuz SU-013 mic. Very nice wooden box. I love the paper work that comes with it. Nice to have all the business cards and photos of the people who worked on my mic. Now that I feel I personally know them all, do I have to send them a Birthday Card?

Overheads and room mics. You can 'open' or 'close' up a sound easily, depending on what's needed. And also, impedance changes with ribbon mics can also give you many other options.

Soundcraft MTK 22: Been hankering after a board for years, seems like it was a good way to dip the toe instead of plunging. NI Komplete 11: Self explanatory. ISK 2B Beauty: Really like the sound of it, if this one doesn't work I will NEVER buy a low end mic EVER again (maybe). Pair of shorts: It ain't sunny, but these sure are comfy.

Everyone please remember if you can at all solder without burning down the house, this is a box, an XLR set, and a stepped pot. $69 is the most this should ever cost, like MSRP. $69 isn't terrible for trying out the concept though, no labor, etc.

Just bought a shit-ton of computer parts. I'm going to build one computer for my brother, whose PC is getting close to ten years now, and one for myself. So I will have a super duper CPU for the main 'studio' room, as well as a super duper #2 computer for the drum room, slash mobile work. Both of mine will have Core i7 CPUs, Thunderbolt, and SSD drives internal. (M.2 drive on the two newest builds.) This will open up the doors to have a full 24+ channel interface rig for home, and mobile, as I procure audio interfaces down the line. The last time I ripped apart my studio to take it somewhere else, I vowed to never do that again. There has to be an easy, separate rig for mobile work, for me. I can't record bands at this location, anyway, so it's vaguely important.
Also not a purchase, but I spent a few hours hauling huge guitar/bass cabinets in and out of the rooms, and my Marshall half stack is set up in the main guitar area, pretty exciting. Good full-body workout as well. It's good to keep things changing on a cycle, keeps me creative and active. And clean, as well.
