Neumann U67RE. Will possibly trade it, and I'm testing it right now in my studio. So far, well... It's very bright so no vintage smoothness here I'm afraid. Quite sibilant too. But if I keep it I'll go down the rabbit hole and try out some different tubes. Exactly as my friend Vincent said. The change of tubes is AMAZING on the U67 r.i. Vintage Telefunken EF806s (1960) or EF806S(1959) (there's a difference) change the tonal character dramatically whereas the Amperex (1967-1969) is a just out of this world dramatic change.

Two cool things... LG Dual Up monitor as well as MixingTable.com covers/stands for FP16 and Console 1. The monitor is a 16:18 ratio which is just so much better for the way I work. Additionally, I can lower it right to my FP16 and it creates a nice feel connecting the physical faders to the DAW. The stand for the Console 1 is a bit too large for my desk but it really makes using that thing so much easier when you can see what knob you're grabbing (angled up instead of flat). All in all, been using this setup for one evening and it's very smooth. One more step towards taking a bit of the "left brain" thinking out of the process and just focusing on feel.

At home I’m about 4’ away from speakers and was thinking that might be too close for those and have been strongly considering the KH150’s instead

Hard to tell in that picture but it’s pretty much an equilateral setup. I was nervous about the same thing but everything I read and heard indicated that the 310s would be fine there and, sure enough, I’m very happy with them. I’m sure the 150s are great but I wanted something without DSP. Really for no reason other than just reluctance to change.

Did Neumann discontinue the 150A's or whatever the non-digital version are called?
edit: Nevermind, I see those are actually the 120's.

I was concerned at first, too, but the waveguides work well.

I pulled the trigger on a matched pair of C12 clones from Barbaric Amplification. I think I’ll mostly be using these on drum overheads, but also acoustic guitars, vocals, and I’ll give them a try on bass. Barbaric offers free labor on upgrades for life, so I might eventually replace the capsules with Tim Campbell capsules, but I’m going to give the Maikus a chance first. I’ve heard really good things about Maiku capsules and Chris at Barbaric thinks very highly of them. Here’s the details: “Barbaric BA12C matched pair AKG C12 clone. Selected Maiku K12 capsules, AMI T14 transformers, NOS mint and matched GE Triple Mica 6072 tubes and custom pcb BA-PS12 power supplies with bias adjustment and remote polarity switching, just like the original.”

Good call on the purchase and the level-headedness on upgrade options! You’re gonna love ‘em!

Good call on the purchase and the level-headedness on upgrade options! You’re gonna love ‘em! *Coming from a big Barbaric customer and fan. I’m a big Barbaric fan as well! I’ve had a custom M49 he built for me for about three or four years now. The service and communication has been as amazing as the sound of the microphone! I had him upgrade the capsule to a Neumann about a year ago. These C12s will be a nice complement to the M49 I think. I still have lots of mic ideas, and various parts laying around including another Neumann k47 capsule. Eventually I’m going to have him build me some more mics but first I need to financially recover from this purchase 😂 Its surprising to me so many people are buying what are lesser mics when Barbaric is an option. For example, I paid about the same for these as what Warm charges for their C12 clone, and I got a better capsule, better tube, lifetime transferable warranty (vs 1 year with Warm), and it was assembled and hand-wired by a master mic craftsman here in the USA vs by who knows in China. For Chris’s sake I want the word to get out about how great he is, but then again I don’t want him to raise his prices before I’m done buying mics 😂

Well I had to grab a used pre-production version of the Luke Audio AL-X751. I had a production version on loan for a couple weeks back in 2015/2016 or so and I loved it, but I was much more focused on starting to build a friend’s new studio at that time. Will be interesting to hear it next to my AL-Y56.

Can't compete with lowlou but I picked up a 70's Slingerland kit with a bunch of extras cheap...just to flip to help justify some new studio monitors for the home studio (still undecided on what to get, but leaning Neumann KH310's). I also snagged a Catalinbread Fuzzrite Germanium version cheap on Reverb...and ordered $400 worth of IC line drivers and amps so I can finally finish my Auditronics console and put direct outs and inserts on every channel.
I still can't decide what to do with the console...it's very cool and sounds great but but I really don't "need" it. I've been tempted to try and sell it and buy a couple "lifer" microphones...a pair of KM86's and, pipe dream, a pair of KM54's or KM56's...that would get used every session.

Curiosity got the best of me and ordered an Advanced Audio CM800T One of the few tube mics of there’s that I haven’t tried. I'm interested to hear how it compares to some of the other brighter microphones I have...and one thing that's challenging for me when I've used C800G's in the past is when the artist is singing and playing an instruments there's A LOT of bleed...so the figure 8 pattern was appealing although I'm sure it really changes the frequency response of the microphone. I might even see if I can't borrow a C800G from someone to do an A/B comparison.

Their CM67 had a very open sound (based on a modded U67) and I made some nice recordings with it.
