Picked up the Synergy SYN1 preamp from sweetwater that they're bundling with a free Friedman BE module. Was tracking guitars last week through an Egnater M4 with Deliverance and MKIIP modules, will be fun shooting that out with the little grab and go SYN1. That sounds like a killer deal, might have to do the same. I've been considering getting rid of my old Randal RM50, and I only use one module with it anyway. How does the cab emulation sound when recording direct out? I think that'll be the deal breaker for me, if I can record without a cab then I don't think I can pass it up.

Before the ABBB... There was the Allman Joys. And the Holidays are always a good time to spread a little Joy. Caroling-of course! Chris

Sweet Caroline! Bom bom bom! As you may expect I love the film "Elf". Speaking of Elves... Once upon a time, there was an Elf working away for Santa. But he longed to be rich and famous as a singer. So he became a Wrapper! Chris

Used Lauten LS-208. Decide if I'm keeping it, or passing it on to the live radio show. I'll be using it either way.

I am still mostly "in the box", so most of my purchases is software. I bought an SSL bundle on sale. They are channel strips of sorts, and focus on vocals, drums, and some other stuff. I mostly tweak knobs and experiment with random noise. That's about it.

I just bought a Beyer M420. Almost 25 years ago I did some recording at a studio that used one for snare, and I've wanted one ever since. Now if I can find an EV RE38, my mic quest will be complete.

Dude I keep fighting going Down the Gear from my youth magnetic reaction! But since you’re talking Beyerdynamic my wife is moaning about the cheap seats for the Eagles tomorrow night are $250 each with only Glen Freys ghost. Beyerdynamic comped us great seats for Hell freeze s over!🥲

Well that was extremely unexpected…
For some reason, Elation Microphones popped into my brain tonight. I go to their website and it’s down. I’m not surprise, as a couple years ago, when I finally was ready to grab a KM 901 after all these years, Michael Stepanov told me the designer postponed production of Elation since he’s been developing for NIKFI Microphones. I do a Google search for Elation and a pair of KM 202 mics are up on reverb. Great price and look to be in good condition. The case they’re in I recognize from Taylor Johnson’s The Sound Room; where I first heard of Elation and Oktava! I had to snatch them up!

Still waiting for delivery, but the DI with cab emulation on sounds pretty good in the videos. Would probably still track an uncompensated output as well to try different IRs, but be great for monitoring latency free. I believe a new BE-Deluxe module is coming out, hence them blowing out existing stock. So one more unobtanium module for the collection!

The RM50 was my first modular amp, moved it after adding an RM4 preamp for more slots, then added an M4 for dual channel slots, now a SYN1 as I only track one channel at a time anyway!

They come out with whatever new "____-Strip" or console emulation for $199. Then sell it for $19.99. And wonder why people won't pay retail. I think their forays into native DSP are just late to the game. It reminds me of when Vanilla Ice decided to imitate Limp Bizkit. Oh, and for anyone here under 40? That happened. And for anyone under 30? Google it.

Oh, very interesting. You see, I come from the PC world where 95% of the time more money means more power, unless you can get your hands on some OEM stuff. Then you can get same quality for half the price, lol. Anyway, I will talk with my friend about that. He said he tweaked the speaker so carefully that a lot of power was lost so they can't play very loud and he has burned one speaker when someone asked to crank them really loud. Well, I never monitor at such volumes so I'm okay. But they are very flat. He said that the speaker has a slight bump at 1.2k, also he told me about some kind of trick that he found by accident which helps with the phase or linearity, I'm not sure. The cafe was super crowded and I couldn't understand everything. Also, I'm still kind of a noob here. I've only been using pro monitors since 2015. And they were the yammies and I only heared high end in his studio a couple of times, which was pretty cool, because I got a very warm feeling inside a couple of times, but that was it. I did not listen to music, we did recording for TV. I'll see what he has to say about the Supremes. They are very proud of their monitors anyway. It’s always fun when you get a speaker designer talking about why they did things the way they did, not as a justification or condescending way but as an explanation of why their speakers sound like they do. For instance I have a hunch about what his trick for better phase alignment is and it would also explain the problems at High SPL, but I’m not going to guess. A friend who worked for consumer highend speaker company always liked my first rule of speakers; they all suck. It’s all about how different speakers suck and what kind of suck you like. Because compared to every other part of the chain Mics and speakers do produce the most distortion and are the least linear. Given the chance I would like to hear your friends speakers. I am a huge Volt fan, these days most of my time is devoted to live ( if they weren’t so expensive I would love to use that Volt Coax 12). Oh Torn is one of those guilty pleasures that rocks on a good speaker, but the system I find it just jumps and Grabs you is in a Tesla Model 3. You almost feel like it was mixed in a Tesla! Well, the high end still sounds kinda cool. And EDM? The Volts just say "Give it to me, baby", lol. Haven't been in the studio for a few days, today the music sounds good. Anyway, supposedly we are going to build the best studio in the city with a custom four way flush mounted sound system. Volts all the way Doube 15-inchers for the low end You are always welcome, buddy, whenever you're on this side of the ocean. Oh, and your comment "Questeds and AMG" was perfection, lol. I was like, this guy knows what he's talking about!!!! It's just that that S63 AMG Coupe is at least 80k

It's just that that S63 AMG Coupe is at least 80k The other day I was cooking for the holiday and put Peter Gabriel on Shuffle, standing 10 feet back from my normal listening position at a slightly lower than usual volume there was something magical about 4 volt 8s summing together in the lowend. The definition, the attack. Man if only I could afford to use Volt in the PA! While those 15’s are very special the real magic is the 12 and 10 built for subs. Volt is the near perfect compromise between ATC low distortion and being able to go low while not being a speaker that is just an LF monster. I had an AMG supercharged C32, thing was a wolf in sheep’s clothing, Now I drive a Tesla Model 3 dual motor, it just eats the most common high performance vehicles for lunch.

What speakers do you have with those Volts? The four way system would have a single 12" Volt and two 15" on each side. But it's probably mostly just for impressing the client C-Class AMG is a pretty cool car. Yeah, those electric motors are very fast. My sister's guy has a Type S. He doesn't drive fast, but the times he needs to get from the roadside to the road... Oh man, it's a fricking beast.

H208’s the old wide version of the passive dual 8 3 way, same drivers same volume and tuning just wide vs tall. A Bunch of the F11 actives. I have built a bunch of Volt based subs and small monitors. In fact UPS just dropped off 2 of 6.5’s .

Hugging the box is the unofficial, official sign you have truly joined the club my friend. Some would call it a problem we call it a lifestyle. Our significant others call it an addiction.

I’ve wanted a home theatre system or any kind of home system of any type for many many years now… I still have absolutely nothing!
Just picked up a NOS 1961 GE 5-Star 6072 though!
