It’s a time aligned Quested H108, sort of mellow but it works really well. The difference is, they are using Supreme Morel instead of CAT, so the tweeter is three times more expensive. I mean man, I'm listening to Alanis Morissette's "Ironic" right now and I'm almost crying, lol. It's just sooo beautiful and it's not even my favorite track nor I ever even listen to it! (Random Tidal suggestion). Okay, Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn" sounds also fantastic! You never know with music... Linas, that’s interesting most who use the cat with either Vifa or Volt lean towards the Cat because of how well they transition from the other driver. On the other hand the more expensive Supreme definitely is a better driver in the upper end, unfortunately while they work well and don’t sound bad in the crossover region the cheaper CAT is better at it. It’s all a trade off and compromise. Every time I hear of someone buying the best Tweeter, mid and woofer money can buy they find they sound like ass together.

You see, I come from the PC world where 95% of the time more money means more power, unless you can get your hands on some OEM stuff. Then you can get same quality for half the price, lol. Anyway, I will talk with my friend about that. He said he tweaked the speaker so carefully that a lot of power was lost so they can't play very loud and he has burned one speaker when someone asked to crank them really loud. Well, I never monitor at such volumes so I'm okay. But they are very flat. He said that the speaker has a slight bump at 1.2k, also he told me about some kind of trick that he found by accident which helps with the phase or linearity, I'm not sure. The cafe was super crowded and I couldn't understand everything. Also, I'm still kind of a noob here. I've only been using pro monitors since 2015. And they were the yammies and I only heared high end in his studio a couple of times, which was pretty cool, because I got a very warm feeling inside a couple of times, but that was it. I did not listen to music, we did recording for TV. I'll see what he has to say about the Supremes. They are very proud of their monitors anyway.

It’s always fun when you get a speaker designer talking about why they did things the way they did, not as a justification or condescending way but as an explanation of why their speakers sound like they do. For instance I have a hunch about what his trick for better phase alignment is and it would also explain the problems at High SPL, but I’m not going to guess. A friend who worked for consumer highend speaker company always liked my first rule of speakers; they all suck. It’s all about how different speakers suck and what kind of suck you like. Because compared to every other part of the chain Mics and speakers do produce the most distortion and are the least linear. Given the chance I would like to hear your friends speakers. I am a huge Volt fan, these days most of my time is devoted to live ( if they weren’t so expensive I would love to use that Volt Coax 12). Oh Torn is one of those guilty pleasures that rocks on a good speaker, but the system I find it just jumps and Grabs you is in a Tesla Model 3. You almost feel like it was mixed in a Tesla!

I got a Moongel practice pad and stand for sitting on the couch and practicing at home. It's fantastic for its purpose (little bounce) and isn't very loud and I'll be able to do Stick Control while my GF is asleep.

You might wanna visit the audioscape website in about another 88 minutes. There's a Golden 58 preamp up for sale! HOW GOOD IS IT? I can only describe it as "The most decadent icing on the cake ever made in a microphone preamp." I've been finding more and more uses for mine all the time. There's this polish on it, that I can't describe. I would LOVE to see someone post here and say they got it!!

I just bought a serviced Teac A-6010 from a studio sale and I’ve never owned a reel to reel before 😅.

After spending a few days with the HCL Solutions comp and solving my rack space dilemma/puzzle I gave in and ordered the 2 channel HCL Affinity tube preamp. It didn't hurt that Front End has 15% off right now. Any recommendations on small silent fans would be appreciated, my small room is getting warm....

You're going to love the Locomotive!!!! Thanks Dr. Bill. I went back and forth on that vs a pair of 72's but I think the 86 will be the more versatile option...hopefully they can do reasonably clean as well as hairy.

Welcome Chris! You're going to love the Locomotive!!!! Thanks Dr. Bill. I went back and forth on that vs a pair of 72's but I think the 86 will be the more versatile option...hopefully they can do reasonably clean as well as hairy. I bet you will be super happy! Having had the Mercury V72s (a great version of the 72) with ef806s tubes and then later the Locomotive 286a, the Locomotive wins hands down for tone and versatility. The Locomotive 86b-2 is supposed to be as good as the Locomotive 286. From Locomotive website: Now, the all-new 86B-2 updates the 286A with a new front panel, new circuit layout, separate mic and line XLR inputs, as well as a much higher DI input impedance. And best yet, a much lower pricetag!
So congrats!

Ordered a Curtis Novak JM-V neck pickup for my Jazzmaster to go with my JM-FAT bridge...big Novak fan.
Otherwise...trying to decide on my next microphone purchase. I think it's between a Soyuz 017, Wunder CM7, Blue Bottle, or Upton 251. I need to get them side by side somehow. I'd like something a bit more "modern" sounding to use when a U67 or M49 aren't the vibe. I often use figure 8 polar patterns which makes the Upton appealing...but maybe one day they'll have a figure 8 capsule for the Soyuz? The Blue Bottle is pretty inconvenient to place but I do like the way they sound.
Decisions, decisions.

Picked up the Synergy SYN1 preamp from sweetwater that they're bundling with a free Friedman BE module. Was tracking guitars last week through an Egnater M4 with Deliverance and MKIIP modules, will be fun shooting that out with the little grab and go SYN1.

Sticking up the group of us who usually jump on something like this, we had a group chat and thought it was to easy and there was no way we could keep it under control. As much Joy as we found in it we tried to stick with it and keep it under control.😁

Based on your description, I’d probably go Upton, especially if you have that u67 thing covered. I have a 017tube, and it’s firmly in the “vintage” camp. I’ve got an Upton on my wishlist next…

Sold a couple of things on Gear Exchange and put it towards a Soyuz 017 Tube demo they had. Looking forward to putting it to use after all the raving here. 100% top notch quality though on the build and stunningly beautiful in person.
