So I went and bought one of them there Bayer MC834 aspirins as well. Had a lovely telephone chat with Eric ericn this morning about the Beyer. Eric, you really love them... except the tricky tail! (apologies to Genesis) So over to the gear buying bragging thread to further announce that. Oh wait, we're already in that thread!! And you know what Grandpa Simpsons's friend said . . .

In the grand old days Neumann Beyerdynamic and Sennhiser all shared a lot of knowledge, the Good PHD’s were all good friends. It was them against AKG. This is the stuff you learn when you buy all the old Reps a couple of drinks.

HAHAHAH That might have been even more fun😁, but seriously you ever notice how each of those three for the most part played in their own sandbox up till about 1980? They had these gentlemens agreements and where they did they shared knowledge. It was very much a “all of us against the world” adittude post WW2.

Did you know it's illegal to water your plants in China?
It causes the microphones to rust. Chris

Chris My wife says change that to Russia, my father in- law was Army Intel in Iran before the fall of the Shah, and in Poland under Martial law. She tells stories of him giving lectures in capitalism to the walls and of the house keeper telling them they had to go out so they could come in and change the batteries. He was scheduled to go to Lebanon but they blew up the guy he was supposed to replace a week before he was scheduled to go and they cut the position.

Got my Beyerdynamic M380 and really impressed with it! Really great low end but still a decent amount of “attack”. You can really use the proximity of the figure 8 pattern to your advantage. I imagine it’s equally great on a bass amp. I feel fortunate I was able to get one at a great price…I wouldn’t spend $1000 for on one like they sometimes go for but I think it’s a better sounding dynamic than say a D12

Not a fan of the Beyer condensers. Love their dynamics and ribbons though.

The MC834, MC740 and MC840 I’ve gotten decent results with in the past…I don’t own any but I think for the price they often sell for used they are a good value…but I’m with you the dynamics and ribbons are the stand outs. We did however buy 6 pairs of DT770’s for the studio a couple years ago and 4 of them died within 6 months. I was also gifted a set of DT880’s from an artist and those were done within a year with maybe 50 hours of use. I’d never buy another pair of their headphones again. I have Audio-Technica’s that are 20 years old and have thousands of hours on them and all still work (they just look like shit now haha)

Not a fan of the Beyer condensers. Love their dynamics and ribbons though. This surprises me. a matched pair of their MC930 pencil condensers are about the only things that beat a pair of KM84s on XY stereo capture. Prove me wrong. will eat my Heiserman baseball hat that mdmitch2 gave me

Maybe.... On the 930 vs. KM84 front, I can only disagree 1000%. My experience (and those of my clients) was a 180 opposite. Especially and moreso in a less than optimal room.

Speaking of Beyer, I think we can all be happy that my M160 ribbon showed up.

Just got this PRS SWamp Ash Special. It plays really nice like my other usa prs’s . I will have to play around with the split coils to see what combos i like best. But there seems to be some secret sausce in the way they make these PRS’s that always put a smile on the dial.

Just ordered a Harley Benton short-scale fretless violin bass for fun, at a bargain price Had to look that one up. Doesn't look like you'd have to spend much money on one. I hope you enjoy it. I had a Hofner Beatle bass for a few days back in the early 70s. Wolf-tones, feedback. It was awful. Easy enough to see why McCartney went to a Rick or Fender as soon as he had the money. But I think rock was about the last thing the makers of that instrument had in mind. At lower levels--piano trio, etc--it would have been a nice lightweight alternative to lugging a contrabass around. I've got to assume that the one I had was a bad example.

I bought a Pearl 13x3 maple piccolo snare. Why? I don’t know. Just for the one in a hundred songs that call for that sound

I just picked up two more Contax Zeiss lenses from a camera shop in Japan (via eBay): a “Made in West Germany” 25mm f/2.8 lens, which is a really really old and imperfect design, and a 60mm f/2.8 Makro-Planar lens.
We’ve got a commercial shoot on Friday, and I’m hoping to use the 60mm macro lens on that shoot.

Prism Lyra 2 - very impressed.. My Lyra 1 is what got me into Prism land. I had a pair of B2 Bombers at the time and for what I wanted to hear it was better which I didn't expect. Also has surprisingly nice pres and DI and you can use that Hosa ODL-312 to open up the digital options, all around an amazing interface. I've moved on to an 8XR and Titan as they both have HDX which I need but I wouldn't mind having another Lyra for more mobile options. And speaking of mobile my own newly acquired gear will be the Slate VSX I just ordered. I'm curious to see how it works out.

Bought an Adcom GFA-535 amplifier for $30 and sent it straight to Jim Williams. It has two outputs with a source select switch on the front, so I’m going to use it to power my Reftone and NS10’s. Streamlined baby!

Just got my Beyer MC834 and also just bought another Oktava 12 with the Red (later called BLUE) C12 headbasket which screws on to it . . . and maybe other preamps also!
I will report back.
P.S. I love microphones. But alas, I only have 116.
