What Doesn’t everyone use a trimmed DDA console PSU for their 500 series rack?
Sad....
I had a mega built up D&R OrionX power supply that Ralph Skelton @ Pacific Innovative beefed up and customized for me. Weighed 75+ lbs. Spent a ton of money on it. Sold it as a spare power supply when I sold the console. Makes me sad thinking about it. It was A M A Z I N G sounding. Open and fast, punchy, huge, mega bottom, etc. If I still had it I would absolutely use it to power my 500 racks. ALL of em.
I just bought DSM V3 because Paul Frindle himself recommended it as a tool to emulate the progressive treble softening effect of analog tape. I look forward to seeing what it can do
I picked up another ADR Scamp rack…probably overpaid considering it’s condition but it had some great modules (ADT, Auto Panner, Compressor) so fingers crossed they work. From experience with them it’s not even worth trying to power them up before a recap…definitely had some “explosive” times with other modules. So, after I replace about 200 capacitors we’ll see if I have any success 😂
thats a great thread. I had some of the same issues. I have two power supplies that look identical but one weighs a lot more and seems to work better. Transformer perhaps? I have not opened it but will bring to my tech to check out.
Finally ordered a pair of Link Audio SL4K-E01 preamps. They're going to assemble them with the pad as a proper line in module. So I'll be one step closer to my full SSL Channel Strips. They're not scheduled to ship till the end of 2022/beginning of 2023 though. Hopefully the Royal Blue Colour Modules will be back in stock by then and I'll be able to grab those for some Neve flavor when I use the preamps.
Not really able to fully test them yet because There is still a large 8ft high scaffold with a plywood platform acting as a partial live ceiling. The Room is live solid wood floors with 16ft dead ceiling. The room had a flutter free short reverb time, The wall diffusers scatter the sound and seem to shorten the room reverb time. with the Scaffold removal, and the addition of the inter thermal tube trap corners and wall half rounds I'll be able to test better. So far it's a great sounding tracking room. Just ordered 4 more to fill in spots in the diffused back wall of the control room.

Bought an Ecoplate III...picking it up Thursday. Hoping it works, buying from a broker I haven't had the best experience with. A plate reverb is one thing I’ve felt has really been missing from the studio. Hope to one day track down a larger Ecoplate I or II or maybe even a Lawson (EMT 140 is out of reach financially).
