Today I gave away two licenses for PSP 2445 reverb, so two new people have two new plugins.
I'm also building a fuzz face for an RGO member and I have hit this weird wall with the assembly, a real head scratcher, but I'll keep trying. It's a very simple circuit.

I had a little PayPal balance I'd forgotten about (and remembered), so I picked up the Kirchhoff EQ while it was on sale at Audio Deluxe.

Zoom H8 recorder. I had an equipment failure on a recent classical concert and realized that I needed a backup solution that I could easily carry along. And I've also had to admit to myself that schlepping around my laptap and small roadcase will cause me several days of back pain (I'm in my 70s and my back is a wreck). So what would work as a lightweight backup and might also work as a primary system in less-critical cases?
The H8 comes with a basic XY mic which I replaced with a slighly-upgraded mic that would give me a little inter-capsule spacing. But it also has 6 XLR mic pres with phantom power (you'll need a little USB wall-wart to have enough power for that). The basic unit is $400 and the mic upgrade was perhaps $150.
I finally had a chance to use it a couple of weeks ago. A good friend had a 3 night program of piano recitals with his Steinway D. The dynamic range of a big piano will tell you a lot about the quality of mic pres. I used the built-in mics, an M/S pair (Schoeps and Samar), an AB pair (Schoeps) and a spot mic (KM140) on the flutist who dropped in for a guest appearance. I was surprised at how well it came out. The built-in mics weren't great, but they weren't bad either. The other mics sounded great--just like themselves. The music was quite dynamic and complex and the inner voices came out very well.
Next chance to use it will involve piano, winds and strings. I suspect this will come out just fine.
I'll keep the laptop, Focusrite, Furman for those times when I have a quiet room and a very critical recording. But my back is very happy that there's another 40 or 50 pounds I don't have to drag in from the car.

I get so lost in gear, the specs, the theory, but it's all just music.

Good golly. Somehow I ended up buying like 4 or 5 Fuse plugs at 50% off tonight. I’m not entirely sure how it even happened.

8 channels of SSL E-Series EQ. 500 series? Aye.. www.thomann.de/gb/ssl_500_series_611_eq.htmAnother SSL Big Six and a Lynx Aurora(n) 24 arrived a couple of weeks ago as well, at this point I'm not miles away from re-creating the old 4K setup I had just in a different format. I know it costs a bit more to do it this way but it's better than taking the brunt of it all up front. No issues using plugs to fill in the gaps whilst it all gets sorted out.

I honestly think it was the post-Tax Day high. We had a huuuuuuge tax bill this year, so I couldn't celebrate filing by buying hardware. But a few plugins? Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure

Very cool wasn’t sure if you went with the clones or found a Lynx/ Mynx based system at at a stupid price!

certified delay addict here I love various delay racks and pedals some long time favorites are ADA 1280 and 256i, the Digitech 7.6 time machine, Ibanez DM1100 racks and Ibanez DE7 stomp pedal I've been eyeing the Maneco Labs stuff for awhile and decided to go for one of these it's Maneco's enhanced version of the EHX 16 delay pedal. Pretty sure this one is going to be uniquely awesome - manecolabs.com/detalle/pedal-sweet-16-digital-delay/

I'm picking up a Sterling Modular Plan A desk tomorrow. I've got to get my home space more organized and the gear more accessible and the price seemed right...I'm going to sell off my other racks and pretty much cover the cost of the desk.

I can’t knock the sterling modular, but if the deal isn’t so stupid good that you can’t wait I would seriously look in the yellow pages under cabinet builder and see what I could do.

I traded a very special USA Stratocaster (1998) my first guitar, for a really cool Martin D16GT acoustic, that I'm having a lot of fun with. The strat wasn't getting played, it's been years. The Martin is very exciting! Traded to a friend, pretty even when you look at the prices, he loves the Fender.

I was also handed a Yamaha wood clarinet today... not going to chase that dragon just yet, but glad to have it in the collection, next to the resting alto saxophone.

It's pretty darn cheap, although studio furniture doesn't have the best resale value! It has some nice trim upgrades and I think for a comfortable, compact, home set up it's pretty well designed. Less clutter in my home space will go a long way in me wanting to be there!

Yamaha makes great woodwind instruments...very dependable and excellent engineering...easy to play in tune with little effort. If you need any ideas for mouthpieces or small repairs like cork work feel free to ask. Congrats!

Yeah I guess step one would be to get a "good" mouthpiece, a good reed for beginning... open to recommendations. There's a Selmer ligature floating around here on this other French clarinet. Not sure what maintnence will be needed, haven't touched it yet... but I did 3 or 4 small jobs on my Alto Sax... Guess I should do this sooner than later.

Small world! Some of those old veterans are funny in their wily ways... reminds me of a drummer friend of mine (very sarcastic.)

Ha thats funny I just started using the same piece on tenor(not marbled) and will soon buy one for alto.Have lots of tenor pieces but just a few alto and took a few years off and want to have an easy to play setup. Love the fact the select jazz are extremely consistent so if it gets dropped no prob to replace.Have some vandoren v16 pieces for the same reason. Going the same way with horns... have some amazing selmers but theyre all different and worth too much to roam around on the subway etcs or risk having to check it under plane. Using yanigisawas and B&S(german) horns now took a while to get used but great instruments.Had a yamaha bari that was great ybs 61 long gone great funk horn have yani 901 now that is good too

Ive been threatening to assemble the bass clarinet and I think this conversation will take it over the top I love bass clarinet. It was so intrinsic to the TV scores of the late 50s and early 60s like Twilight Zone/Hitchcock etc... lovely sound. Haunting in the right composition.
