Nice punchy little loud mouth Martin OM 28. Well built, great player. And records nicely so far.

Just got a pair of APS Klasik 2020 monitors. After years of making do with JBLs, Rockits, Presonus, IK, Chinese knock off ribbons, etc etc it was time to step up a bit. I've only had them a day so it's way to early to be an evangelist for the product. But man do they sound nice--a much bigger upgrade than I imagined. Just got back from a trip to find my new monitors unexpectedly had shown up six weeks early. Not ashamed to admit I upgraded from an ancient but not unusable pair of Events to Neumanns. And I totally agree: a much bigger upgrade than I imagined. I immediately heard so many (easily!) fixable problems in some recent things I'd been working on. But the most exciting thing was being able to really hear dynamic finger work from a bass player on a song I've listened to a million times. It was honestly a bit trippy. Hearing real clarity in the lows and low mids is not something I ever thought would happen in my home studio. Today was an unexpectedly big day! Tonight will most likely last til the early AM hours as I'm pretty sure there are quite a few jazz records I need to reexamine.

Hopefully the image works right... LH95 should be arriving later today, but was too impatient to wait until it came to pop this in... Have a DerrEsser that should arrive tomorrow... I'm telling myself not to wire everything up until then, but we'll see...
(Also have an order in for a UFX II; supposedly one MI retailer is expecting them on October 9, but I have a feeling that date isn't factoring the supply delays RME is going through...)

Stam SA-23A+ just got delivered. I’m at work and won’t be able to check it out until later, but I am pumped about it.
Also ordered a Behringer Poly D, which I am likewise pumped about.

Curious to hear how you feel about that, Ragan. It reminds me that there is some good cloned stuff that behringer has done. More than a few pedals come to mind.

Coupla audioscape 76D compressors arrived late last week. Been firing em up on everything I can, and loving them. Wish the input knob didn't have to live so far down low in its throw, though...that particular bit of behavior is a bit dissimilar from other 'real' 1176s I've used. But the tone and compression action are really nice. Love them on shells, which is not a place I could ever get my UA reissues to really shine. Also dig them a LOT on electric guitar, which surprised me. They really nail the 'thing' i love about a good, proper rev d/e there. Already considering a second pair. Ha.

I (think) I found a new home for the 4 Hairball 1176's so I decided to buy 4 more kits. I've been using the partial kits and ordering components from Mouser and DigiKey and decided to buy a few things like all the resistors in bulk so I'll have them on hand. But, in case anyone is wondering, the full kits are still a great value and buying the components elsewhere doesn't really save you much money!

I also found another BMD Komit cheap locally. These are really interesting…a VCA compressor with only the ratio for a control (like a SPL Dynamaxx) followed by a diode clipper/limiter that can turn into a distortion box if you want it to. Interesting on bass or drums where you really want to bring up the low level detail, or on something like a kick drum where you want L1 *nothing shall pass* limiter attack sound…but analog

You know its quite surprising how some of them turn out. These were just taken on the back steps of the house. Nothing special. But the real shame is if i spent more time recording with this stuff instead of less hobby time photographing it i might actually have a lot more momentum in my music endeavours. But i have learnt to enjoy the journey along the way. Everyones path is different and enjoy whats in front of you. Now back to mopping the kitchen floor cleaning the toilet.

I should make a list, it's kind of ridiculous:
Sonnox Oxford EQ Sonnox Transmod Waves Sibilance 2nd license Exponential Audio Excalibur 2nd license (I have 2 production computers) PA bx MegaSingle PA UA Byome IK Multimedia - lost count of how many just now, too much to try in one day...for the price of an SM57
I'm truly enjoying using all of these, the Sonnox especially, but they are all good fun.

I don't have a fancy image to post, but I've been putting the Iron Age Audio LH95 to use for a few days. I feel it's a little under utilized at the moment since all I'm running through are vocals, but utilizing the LPF and HPF filters with generous boosts in their respective shelves yields some really pleasing results that I struggle to describe. With the LPF off, the 95 adds a generous air/clarity to my dynamics that's making me consider throwing the RE20 back on one of the arms for regular/routine use again.
I think it'll be just the thing I need to get the Stager Sr2n to awaken for vocals.
edit: Not that I probably need to add this, but the build quality is great, the packing was great (when I noticed part of the corner caved in a bit probably from being tightly fit in the truck, I was a little nervous, but when I opened it up, I was relieved to see the protection was far more robust than what I saw from some other modules, so I wasn't worried in the slightest).

Finally got an AEA R84! So far it’s my favorite room mic ever… still trying to find other applications for it, as I prefer my 4038’s as overheads, and M160s on cabs. There’s always a learning curve for new mics I suppose!

Awesome!! Someday I'd like to directly shootout R84 vs. 4038 vs. Sontronics Sigma 2 on vocals. I've tried all 3, but not within an hour of one another. All sounded great, in their own distinctive/Vintage way. Chris

Goes with my 1930's RCA preamps. Couldn't pass. Never seen another from this series surface. This one is custom/expanded from the stock mixer.
