Software plugins for me: Sonnox Oxford Drum Gate and the NoiseAsh Rule Tec. To say I'm in thrall to board recommendations is an understatement!

srb Tell me about it, I bought the UAD Vari-MU because John likes it. So, my ISK 2B Generation 2 (toob mic) arrived today.. I had a gen 1 and the new version comes with added benefits like lack of electrocution which I appreciate, really do. Quips aside nobody probably cares about what I think of microphones but I cannot fault the gen 2, there were a couple of teething issues with the first gen centering around phase which made it wide and larger than life sounding. It worked in a sparse acoustic mix but sorta lost itself when competing with more instruments. This wasn't an issue with my specific mic either because the video clips sounded similar.. Through the UA-6176 the gen 2 simply sounds fantastic, not for its price, not because it's an underdog (as ISK also known as Shengke Electronics make parts for a lot of mics) it's just a good mic period. There's no lack of clarity, no excess or un-present mid range, no harsh frequencies, the distortion is pleasing and it's easy to sing into. Sounds great on acoustic instruments as well, I've never said this about a budget mic (unless I'd had too much JD) but I'd happily hand it alongside an M269 or C800 and wouldn't question if it's bringing the side down. Then again like every mic not everyone will love it, if the K67 (K67 was gen 1 apparently thanks to monkey for pointing that out) CV12 doesn't work for you or you're not into modern sounding versions of vintage classics then the gen 2 2B isn't for you.

But doesn't the 2B Gen 2 have a CK12 capsule? I just looked at the ISK website. Mic looks great in that short body with red finish.

The ISK 2B was a K67 gearspace.com/board/low-end-theory/1030466-isk-pro-audio-low-end-heaven.html?I'll change the title of my post to "bought a knock off ELAM 251, never even realised". Although it doesn't sound massively different from memory to the Gen 1, more centre focussed, better mids.. So if the CV-12 cap was the answer, awesome sauce.

Got a bunch of free plugin bundles. Two that stand out:
Variety Of Sound Analog Obsession
and I finally really went into the Airwindows collection today (also free) with good results
Why buy one plugin for $100 when you can get 100 plugins for free, ha!

Free from Plugin Boutique with any purchase (I paid less than $4.) The 1176 seemed a little off, but the Pultec, the regular compressor, the Neve EQ, limiter, all seemed good. I got a pretty vibey drum bus mix with it, nice channel strip. Reminded me of my SSL Native Channel mix, but sounded a little bigger. Not worlds apart. My (free) airwindows and Analog Obsession mixes were also good, I would tell anyone to grab those. Think I spent a total of about $9 today and got a lot of usable plugins. Looking off the beaten path a bit.

Cool. I like the drag and drop style of Studio One. Multitrackstudio has nice plugs, but not generally quite a Modern Daw-let alone a cutting edge Plug IMHO. I like the Cakewalk/Bandlab Plugs too. Chris P.S. Thanks for the excellent/low cost suggestions monkeyxx!

A few plugins I said, just a few that's all I needed .. Well at least now I can be the resident UA plug expert as I pretty much own them ALL. Ampeg SVT - VR EP-34 Tape Echo Capitol Chambers Chandler Limited Curve Bender Manley Vari-Mu Ocean Way Sonnox Oxford Limiter V3 Sonnox Oxford SuprEsser Teletronix LA-2A collection 1176 Limiter Collection Pultec Passive EQ collection That list might not look massive but I own quite a few of the old one's already.. *Sigh. Anyway on some brighter news the Chandler Curve bender is phwoar, you know that almost binaural M/S processing you get due to.. Well, crap caused by analogue gear? This does it too *dances*.. Happy days.! I really need to study how it works properly though, seems a little complex.. Edit: Bought some of the Neve plugs too.. Help.. (Joking, I really needed to upgrade.. Nothing super cool about retro plugins).

I finally bought my own license for the Vulf Compressor. I’ve pretty much acquired a nuclear weapon.

A little update on my MM2. I drove down to Germany and picked it up yesterday. Internally it is identical to the older large badge U47s with the larger vertical transformer and caps. Here it is beside my U47. Funny the MM2 is older than the Tele badged 47 but because of less use is in almost new condition.

Belated birthday present to myself... 3rd Generation Scarlett Solo. Already lovin' the "AIR mode". It sounds just like Abbey Road. (or at least Shabby Road). Look out! Vocal clip below. EV767a>Solo Chris P.S. Will be monkeying around with the (included) Ableton Lite soon too. EDIT: On 6/6 got the idea to combine the Launcher, with the Focusrite Air Button. Practice vocal clip below. IMHO best self recorded 58 Vocal. No LA2A Plugs/Reverb/Processing/etc!

Fluke DMM, handheld OSC, LCR + a decent soldering iron, a lot of my equipment is out of warranty and will eventually need repairing. Its probably been about 8(ish) years since I've opened a chassis to see what's inside it / messed around with it, might buy a Hairball 1176 and practice on that before I touch anything expensive. My Shelford needs an op-amp replacing and the Stam has a pot loose..
Happy days.
