Nice! Look forward to that. I had to back burner my LH95 purchases when a pristine pair of 2055's popped up FS. Been looking for those for 5 years or so. The LH95's will be coming at some point this year though..... I'm visiting at some point later this year. That isn't a veiled threat. Jus don't know if it will be a loud Harley, loud Indian or a ressurected Yamaha RZ for you to listen for . . .

Haha!! We'll hit Route 66! Makes me think of a joke : "Two bikers go into a bar - ones Riding an Indian, and the other is riding a KTM. Bartender says "which of your two is a racist....." Oops. Gotta stop there.

I got the Black Rooster VPRE-73 for $9 bucks or so with the current discount, and they are giving to musician charity, pretty cool. My favorite from them is the VLA-3A, if anyone doesn't have it, now is a good time.
Comparing the VPRE-73 to the UAD 1073, the UAD is thick and punchy, and the Black Rooster is more bright, shimmery, sizzling. It's really good on the cymbals. But for that fat low end I'd probably still reach for the UAD. Both good though. Sort of a dark/bright combo. But they both crunch pretty well, they don't get disgusting and bogus like some lesser emulations.
Also got the Seventies Rock EZX from Toontrack, haven't done a deep dive with that one, just some quick demos. But EZX is not as good as SDX so I won't buy any more of those. The SDX are a lot more realistic and playable.

How do you like the black rooster magnetite? All Black roosters are on sale like you said... Magnetite is good, certainly, a good general tape sim. I do use it from time to time. My first reaches, however, are UAD Studer, Oxide, and Ampex, they are 'special' to me in some way. And Softube Tape because it has 0.1 ms latency so I can track through it. It's also got a nice sort of smooth, rolled off sound, some sort of sheen to it. Where the UAD would be a little more grit/grunt based with neutral air. But if neither of those is needed I'll grab the Magnetite, and it will sound good. It does the "thing," certainly. If I remember, it has a tiny bit of latency. I don't reach for the IK tapes because of the massive CPU requirement.

Been picking up some keys VIs to amuse myself, bought a $7 issue of Beat magazine that included Waves Codex and Traction Retromod LowFreq Wired licenses, then spent a whole $5 at PastToFuture for Lo-Fi Rhodes, MKS-20 Electric Grand and Mellow Tone Pianos for Kontakt. Time to cool it with the extravagant expenditures. No, really, this time I'm gonna cool it... Bought some $10 VIs in Akai's recent 'these plug-ins mean nothing to us' sale... Stratum with an expansion, Solina Redux, Essential Keyboard Collection, Drum Synth 500 and 8 MPC expansions for $20. Plugin Alliance e-mailed a coupon code today for the Gallien-Krueger 800RB for $40: GK-INTRO-3999. After purchase you can get any of their other amps for $30, today only. I had a $50 loyalty voucher, so picked up Ampeg B-15N, bx_bassdude and bx_rockergain100 for another $40. I love playing the Ampeg SVT-VR Classic AAX DSP on Carbon, going to try out the GK, Bassman and B-15 options now.

I'm extremely interested in cheap or free Kontakt instruments. EDIT: just got three for zero dollars, I see some for 5 and 10 also, I'll have to listen to them a bit.

A new EV635a. You can never get enough of them but it’s a shame that the EV635a and RE20 are the only classic EVs that seem to be still in production and made in the USA. Bosch is rebranding a lot of shitty Chinese mics

Bosch is rebranding a lot of shitty Chinese mics I see a lot of used 635a's going for significantly more than new ones. Are the new ones the same as the older ones? I've been meaning to get a second, but never seem to find one that's not beat. If the new ones are the same, that would make it easy....

The paintjobs at least seem to change a lot. I bought the black one too. If it has a painted grill (not in the pic on the B&H website) it's going back for the beige for being not as advertised. All these little things can affect the sound. If it's no longer made in the USA, it's going back without even being opened.

oh and drbill most of the used ones are beat to hell and have degraded foam inside. Half of them are unusable. Send them to EV, you're getting pretty much new internals anyway.

I think the dies and stampers are getting a little worn and Bosch isn’t putting any money into EV.

Just got a Chandler Opto 500 to complete my 10 space rack (8 pres plus the opto)
Was doing some testing when my evening vocal (female pop) session arrived. Was shooting out the AR-51 vs the SA-47 on her voice and we loved the Stam ... realized I still had the Opto patched in from my earlier trst :-D
It stayed on for the session.

Iron Age Audioworks portia street stomp What do you think so far? I always go back and forth about whether or not I want a 2 bus sweetener like that. Seems like it could be a great choice compared to something like Zulu which may offer too many options for my ocd brain.

This Chandler TG Microphone Cassette channel strip has been on my maybe someday list for some time if I ever saw one for a good buy to try out. That doesn't happen often with these but this one became available last week, 1 year old in mint condition, not a scratch on it, for a price I had nothing to lose by trying. So I'm looking forward to see how well it fits me. TG2 Preamp - Curve Bender EQ - TG1 Opto compressor which also has its own XLR I/O allowing you to use it separately of the preamp/EQ section if you want.
