It's pretty minimal but I finally got a real orchestral style music stand to hold my setlists and notes during rehearsal. Been putting it off for years putting up with one of those flimsy folding stands..... Sometimes a small thing such as this can be a game changer. I bought cheap wooden TV dinner trays that I can place beside my “stations” where I kind of leave mics set up like I like them. I can put the ipad that I use to control my DAW, a bottle of water, a pair of headphones, and whatever else I need right there now with no fumbling around. Amazing the difference it makes.

IK Amplitube 4 MAX yeah buddy.
Just starting to dig deeply in, but I have more or less decided this is one of the top amp simulator packages out there.
It's got this ugly/funky/grit thing that a lot of the more "tame" amp sims seem to lack or smooth over. In a mix, it makes it sound more realistic. The Fender clean amps are really what drew me in at first.
And of course the big draw is hundreds of different amps, pedals, cabinets.
IK just gave everyone 30 jam points I think. That means 30 dollars you can use on any of their products. All the upgrades/crossgrades are on sale until this weekend I believe.

I always wonder, all other things aside, who really NEEDS hundreds of different amps, pedals, and cabs? It's always seemed to me to be a "thing" for people who are more interested in "playing around with sounds and choices" than they are in actually playing music. (NOT talking about present company around here.)
IK is a nice company, regardless of what I think of most of their products.

That is a good point. There are a ton of them that I will never end up using. It's nice to have a few choices though. Maybe hundreds is an exaggeration also. It's sort of like having Helix or TH-U (that one has even more than IK). Playing around with choices is a way that I trick myself into writing songs. I did, in fact, end up starting a new song today. Ended up with a very simple patch, just a JCM800 emu into a 4x12. That was one of the ones that got me to buy the MAX package anyway. It sounds pretty dang good, I have to say. And all for the price of a 'single' amp sim from many other companies.

Me, it's usually an acoustic guitar (choice of ONE sound) and a text editor on the computer since I have a hard time reading my handwriting anymore. (I used to use paper, which is a good deal more portable.)
But then I tend to be a lyrics oriented writer - with me it's a matter of "What's the song ABOUT?"
Somebody next to me in the bar drops a phrase and i'm like "Hey, there could be a song in that!"

Bought the new Line Audio CM4 (pair) in February. Awesome! Really hard to believe the sound quality for the price.
I had a pair of CM3 that I sold once I received & tested the CM4. The CM3 is close to omni and the CM4 is a wide cardioid. Both have very accurate off-axis response.
I'll be getting another pair in the near future. Just too good as a utility, point-n-shoot mic for acoustic music, especially when off-axis sounds need to sound coherent.
These are clean "Schoeps-ish" mics, for the unfamiliar.

Got a portable height adjustable stand for the cheap TV I bought to use as a bigger monitor. The stand also has a shelf that is adjustable so I can put my old monitor underneath. This will let me get stuff off my table which I may even remove completely to try and get rid of some reflections. All of this is in preparation for when I order whatever monitors I upgrade to in the coming weeks.
We found out Tuesday that our schools in TX are closed at least through May 4 now. Might as well continue with making the workspace more productive.

Ordered a FC526 compressor kit and 2 AM10 DOA kits from CAPI. Running out of mix work, so need something to occupy my time or I'm going to go crazy being cooped up. Time to bust out the soldering iron.
Hoping the DOA's make me like my 553f's a little more. I'm warming up to them, but it's been a slow process. They are a hair aggressive sounding for my tastes thus far in some applications. Currently have Rogue 5's in them. Going to try and move one of those over to my LC25 where I could actually stand to have a bit more edge, since I use it on bass almost 100% of the time. That will leave me with one Rogue 5 and one 1731 (currently in the LC25) to try with the compressor.

Got a TV Jones Classic pickup, that I put in my Supro Sahara guitar, what a job that was sheesh. Guitar is twice as useful now with two pickups instead of one.

I've been thinking about swapping out my stock FilterTrons in my 6120 with some TV Jones for a long time, but have just never done it. Now I can't decide if I would go with 2 Classics or 1 Classic Plus (bridge) and 1 SuperTron (neck).

This TV Classic is a really great pickup though. You can sort of tell you get what you pay for in terms of the tonality. I like them both but the TV makes me go "ughhh" a little more. I was looking at those blade ones too. I grabbed the Classic because it was on sale (blemish). My original plan was the blade one though. By the way good move on the Exponential plugins. Those are special / next level plugs IMO. They stand out from the crowd.

A digi 192 chassis to swap my cards over too from the one with a bad PSU transformer.
A bunch of DB25 cables that were on reverb. Should be nice and useful for now to get just about all my gear hooked up.

They kind of fuzz out in a cheap-ish sounding way. My 6120 is kind of weird, too. Long story, but I bought it used, sight unseen by necessity - I was moving overseas in a matter of days. (This was back in 2009.) When it arrived, those tall FilterTron pole pieces were essentially touching the strings. I took it to my primary luthier, and he said the pickups couldn't be lowered any further without him carving into the top's braces. He said this indicated the neck angle was too shallow coming from the factory. But then he had the bright idea of turning the pole pieces upside down, which gave a bit more clearance. And that's how they've been ever since. I'm slightly worried that if I order any TV Jones, it might be even taller than the stock FilterTrons on my guitar, which would absolutely not work under any circumstance. Well, unless the top's braces are carved into, apparently. I'm not super keen on doing that. I suppose a neck reset would also address the problem, but it's one of those floating fingerboard neck joints. I'm not sure how easy it is to reset a neck like that??

If it’s got a poly finish and tite bond in the neck pocket it’s not gonna be an easy reset, but it can be done. The raised fingerboard doesn’t make it anymore difficult really. That sounds like a really odd situation with that guitar...

That sounds like a really odd situation with that guitar... Thanks for chiming in, Jeremy. It's a fairly rare guitar: 6120 Tiger Maple Sunburst. They were only made in 2005, and I think no more than 50 or so were made. Maybe even significantly fewer than that; there's no record of anyone on The Gretsch Pages with one that I can remember, though it's mentioned as a "little seen" model. They were from the Japan Fuji-Gen Gakki factory. The finish isn't poly - it's some sort of lacquer. In many ways, it's a great instrument, but in an ideal world, I'd do a few things to it. It would benefit from a new wiring harness and new pups. I'd also like to refret it with taller frets. Of course by that time, given the aforementioned neck problem, one should ask if it's worth keeping the guitar! But I really like its character, and it has meaning for me from a particular period of my life.
