I went into the pick rabbit hole very far this year. I have about a hundred different choices now. Got to get a Blue Chip, I have some similar offerings but it’s on my list.
The best “normal” pick I found is the Fender Tortuga, followed by the Dunlop Ultex.

Got some Waves dirt, the free Berzerk Distortion, then the BF bundled Abbey Road Saturator and MDMX Distortion Modules for $45. Got a link to pick a free plug-in afterwards and grabbed Waves CLA-3A today. Bought a couple $9 VIs for fun, Samples From Mars 2019 Bundle and the old V-Station/Bass Station bundle to use in Komplete Kontrol & VIP as I don't run VST natively. The freebies have been pretty decent this year, Raum reverb from Native Instruments, Rev Plate-140 from Arturia, and pick a free sound pack from AAS just since my last post. And back to the Waves well today for a buy 1 get 1 free, API 2500 and H-Delay for $27. I use Gravity picks JHS model on the SG and Tele, but Dunlop's Ultex Jazz III with the Steinbrenner cause anything else feels wrong.

I also bought a bunch of Charmed Life picks which are made of casein and fabricated with9 a base of milk protein to kind of mimic the animal protein of a tortoise shell. Scott Memmer who makes them is a solid fellow and gives something like a 35 day money back guarantee if you don't like them. Cool bones indeed.

Quick preliminary tests: UM70->CP448 (48v supply)->CA-70S/CA-286S First impressions, wow! Might be cliche, but the old “sounds like a record” saying definitely applies here. I started with the 286 first, ~6” from the mic, and my congested-holiday cold voice sounded full, present, and 3D like it was right there with me. The NF and LF controls allow for significant tonal shaping and soundstage positioning, from in-your-face presence to subdued background warmth. I was surprised to find that the ca-70 seemed to be more present than the 286 with NF at noon. A quick, unscientific run through my 500 series pres (Si Pre, MP573, VP28) in comparison to the Coils, they lack in 3D aliveness, and their breakup qualities are not as pleasant as the smooth tube saturation.

Got another pair of Quad Eight MM-71 channel strips. Looking to rack these up in a nice walnut case with external power supply. Nothing like spending money on vintage gear you will never get back

I bought a Roger R360 drum kit while visiting my parents this week. Actually made by Yamaha for Rogers in the late 60’s. Really unique blue oyster wrap...needs some cleaning, new heads, and 1 bass drum inlay and it’ll be like new. All I could fit in the back of the car with the dogs!

Just pulled the trigger on a Pueblo OLLA. Have a bunch of flyaway gigs coming up and the trusty ZOD is unfortunately too big to bring. Lots of solid things said about it here and I've also been wanting to have a DI I can run between my bass head and cab as the DI on my SVT3 sucks.

Chandler TG Microphone, purchased about 2 weeks ago. Can’t say enough good things about this Mic. My first Chandler purchase. Aware of the brand but not their Microphones. This was made for me. Everything I’ve wanted in a mic and much more than a workhorse. Great on my vox and I posted lots of audio, my 2 cents, and a mic shootout video with the Neumann TLM 103 and Telefunken AK-47 MkII on the GS site (I’m new here). Yesterday we re-tracked guitars, vocals, and percussion for the CELLAR DOORS’ video “Lit Up Like A Christmas Tree”. What a blast working with this mic. 30 variations between A & B system settings and onboard EQ curves from the EMI/Abbey Road TG 12345 mastering console. All this under 2 grand! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Just snagged a pair of AEA N22 ribbon mics for $1000 on reverb. Can't wait to get them. Not sure what they'll sound like but I'm excited to try them on Drum OH and Rooms.
