I pulled the trigger on an Audioscape Opto comp about a week before black friday. So far it sounds really good on vocals and bass. I'll dive into more mixing this weekend.

So.... just ordered UAD x16 and x8 (big shout out to John for the great prices and exceptional communication, even getting back to me from a party last night, highly recommend the Real Gear store). Had to get more I/O for my xmas present to self (assuming no customs hang ups) : a one year old 24 ch Audient 8024 HE. Really more my retirement present, and probably more than I need - but my background was more playing/live sound and I miss faders when trying to mix.

I sent my broken DBX 161 off to Jim Williams for repair/upgrade. Excited to have it back...been sitting broken in the rack for a couple years.
Otherwise just selling some stuff to pay off my big holiday purchase.

Theglow happy for you ! How would characterize the differences between the 76a and the V, other than the obvious differences in their circuits I am thinking about 2 76 A’s as good all rounders and to complement my wa76 and other comps, including Audioscape Buss. I suppose I could order an A and V to try them but feel like I’d be sort of taking advantage of Chris a bit?

I suppose I could order an A and V to try them but feel like I’d be sort of taking advantage of Chris a bit? Thanks! I actually use the V Comp as a tracking compressor, primarily for vocals, bass, and acoustic guitar. It seems to have more even-order harmonic distortion, and that tends to flatter those sources. Basically anything I want to sound (a lot) bigger, I track through the V. I tend to use the 76A during mixdown, almost always on the lead vocal. There’s just something about stacking those two comps that just puts the vocal right where it needs to be, sonically. I find the D Comp to be the most colorful and the most versatile (It’s generally parked on drum bus but I’ve used it on EVERYTHING and achieved great results! Honestly it can be tweaked to achieve a similar characteristic to both the V and the 76A, so I’d probably recommend the D as your first Audioscape purchase. It’s really special.

Interesting, I have the AS. Us comp and it lives on my 2 bus: just excellent .
Zener was a fav ua plug so the the D is certainly on the radar. While I had the Stam adg, I grew to quickly love the A, so am more thinking about that.

Got some Waves dirt, the free Berzerk Distortion, then the BF bundled Abbey Road Saturator and MDMX Distortion Modules for $45. Got a link to pick a free plug-in afterwards and grabbed Waves CLA-3A today.
Bought a couple $9 VIs for fun, Samples From Mars 2019 Bundle and the old V-Station/Bass Station bundle to use in Komplete Kontrol & VIP as I don't run VST natively.

I picked up Halion 6. Vintage King had it listed for about 50% off for the download edition. Couldn't pass it up. I've been on Halion 3 for a decade. Time to move up.

The freebies have been pretty decent this year, Raum reverb from Native Instruments, Rev Plate-140 from Arturia, and pick a free sound pack from AAS just since my last post.
