Got a 3D printed XY mount for my KM84s from Wilkinson Audio, takes all the fuss away, and worked out how to mount it all in a Rycote INV-7, so am very happy. Attachments:

Alto has a flash sale going on refurbished Klark Teknik 1176’s for $300. I bought one and they gave me 10% back in “Alto Bucks” so I turned around and bought a second one for $270. I have a Stam ADG on order that will hopefully arrive someday, but these should hold me over until then.

Bought an Uno analog synth from IK on sale for $120. It comes with a choice of their software titles up to $199 and I was looking at picking up Syntronic anyway. Should be a fun little laptop synth/controller, I dig the stereo input for mixing VIs in with the synth output and the DAW plug-in editor is cool. Uno synth arrived on Thursday, it's tiny, can just sit on the corner of the desk for my not-so-synthy studio needs, then get thrown in a laptop bag to go mobile. I like the sound, more of a vintage analog character than I expected. I used the free software title voucher to get Syntronik and have been using the Uno as a MIDI controller to play the different models, not quite as cool sounding as the Uno itself but they certainly cover a lot of ground. Today I checked the IK website and they have a promotion for a free travel case if you order an Uno or one of their keyboards or monitors in June or July. Too bad I just missed it, but the synth plus Syntronik for $120 was a pretty sweet deal anyway. Then I check the promotions tab on my account and they gave me a free case voucher too, very cool.

Grabbed the Eventide Tverb. Pretty impressed. It sounds very spacious and blends into the track better than most reverbs. You almost wouldn't know its there other than things sounding deeper.
Also got the free Luftikus EQ plugin, which is a Maag EQ4-alike. I like it better than the Maag for some reason, mostly the interface is better looking and easier to use. Auto gain and variable vs stepped modes are great features.

Picked up some Opal Monitors. These things go low... How stable are those things on the side like that? They come with a rubber stand which cradles them. They are pretty much as stable as vertical orientation. I tried and measured them in both orientations.

I've always been curious about the Opals. Coming from the Adam A7x and NS10 they are a bit of a revelation really. I have only had a few days with them. The imaging is really good and they go low but are also very detailed. The sweet spot is wide the waveguide contributes to this I guess. I can hear issues in my work which I had missed on the Adams. The guy I brought them off had Focal twin 6 up next to them. Totally different monitors. The twins were much more mid forward (expected) but my preference was definitely the Opals. I have recently gone from the Apollo 8 to ULN-2 for DAC. I definitely prefer the ULN-2 even considering its age. This to say, my setup has changed fairly significantly but this is the happiest I have been with it. You can't really see it in that pic but room is pretty well treated, bass traps, first reflections, rear wall, cloud.

Bought Tverb for $50 after wavering for a bit, I can see an Anthology bundle on Black Friday in my future. Also bought IK's SampleTank 4 SE and Miroslav Philharmonik 2 CE for $36 each, so that I can mix them with the Syntronik synths in the ST4 interface using the integrated T-RackS/AmpliTube processing.

Sideshow, please tell us about your desk.. thinking about the mastering style desk myself. Hi LCR, I built the desk myself. it was originally based on a Sterling Modular plan D, but last year I ripped it apart an made it into a mastering style desk. I have build pictures somewhere. I am torn regarding desks. The plan D style was really nice regarding desk space, but it took up too much space in the room. The mastering style desk is much more compact and everything is within arms reach. It works better in my current space/situation. There are a lot more studio desk options now then when i made my desk. Even so shipping to NZ makes most option to expensive. My ideal setup is a 4k TV on the wall with a small desk for keyboard and mouse and rack units to the side. To me the makes the most acoustical sense.

Activated IK's Tape Machine Collection demo this morning and ran the Studer A80 on an acoustic/vocal track and a bass/drums track. Purchased, $71 on intro with "jam points." Understand it's crushing CPUs running at 384kHz but I plan on bouncing individual tracks down through the same machine/tape settings and mixing from the .tape version. Adding this to my first two Waves plug-in purchases after a short demo, CLA Mixhub and Abbey Road Reverb Plates, they all have two things in common, I love the sound and they crush CPU!
