I love mine. I have yet to succeed in making it sound bad and I'm currently slamming it pretty good on OHs. That's what I paid for mine, definitely a great deal - right up there with with the RNP 5043 in the bang for buck department. ETA: not sure how I got kicked back 3 weeks in the thread. I keep wanting to try this out every time I see a used one pop up. I have the SOC-20 and it rules. I've passed on the DBC a number of times, only because I'm trying to curb my gear spending. But who am I kidding? I think it’s a steal at full retail price, if you can find one cheaper used it’s a no brainer!

I'm so excited I'm practically giggling..... Dropping the new acquisitions into the desk/rack today. 12 LTL Mr. Focus 500 modules were enough to make me completely tear my desk down and rewire things. (It was a MAJOR PITA, but worth it.) API, Neve and Tube Line cards, Smash and 1176 compressors, HF Pultec EQ with API DOA's, and misc. other colour modules.... WOW. Making a huge difference with my hybrid mixes. These modules are deceptively simple, but fit right in with my philosophy of "presets in hardware" concept that drive my hybrid mix approach. Just fantastic. Loving them!! THEN....something I've been dreaming about for a long time...... My Locomotive 286a dual mic pre showed up today to fill out the desk. A modern approach to the vintage Ampex tube 601's. Super excited to get this hooked into the system. I love it when the right placed gear takes you up a notch or two in your workflow and sonics! This was a super cool upgrade for me.

Another piece of the puzzle arriving later this week from Locomotive. Things are gonna get even BETTER!! Mmmm...do tell! I've bought used Locomotive 286A off Reverb a couple times and both times the sellers backed out. The comp is very intriguing. Yes! The 286a arrived today. Amazing build quality, and the beauty of this unit surpasses the web pics. So beautiful!. The comp is on my short list for the future, but super excited to put the 286a into the fray in the meantime.

(I'm on instrumental stuff for a TV show right now...) The usual stuff. Mixing it up as the muse hits. Digging it.

After all these years I finally pulled the trigger on a U87Ai. I found one without the daughterboard and possibly before the capsules started being tensioned differently, probably from around 2000. I got a good enough price on it that I should be able to get my money back out of it anytime I need to. I think this is going to take my studio up a notch.

The Audio-Scape 76A showed up today. Great build quality and it sounds awesome. I may need to order another one when they are back in stock just to have a pair.

I haven't printed anything yet to look at the wave forms, but just inserting it on some vocals and guitars and comparing it to the UAD 1176A I am very pleased. I will run some things through it and print some tracks over the next day or so. I've also got a couple IGS 576s I want to compare it to.

Snagged a JJ Audio Dutch. Originally went in thinking it had an ADK capsule but it doesn’t, but the seller worked with me and gave me a good price. I’m interested to hear it next to my Bock 241, and to throw it up on overheads. I’ve been wanting something that’s an alternative to the AEA R88 I’ve been using for the past 5 years, just to mix it up.

It’s the stock RK12 capsule and Cinemag transformer. Body and power supply are powder coated. If I like it I might first try the AMI transformer, and maybe spring for the ADK capsule at some point

It's the best mic for my voice out of anything I have ever used. It's worth tinkering until you get it right. That's what I had to do on my mics anyway.

Testing vocal microphones is hard for me because I’m not a singer. I sort of have to use different projects as guinea pigs for microphones.

Going by memory so I’m not going to get this exactly right but sometime in the early 2000’s Neumann had trouble sourcing a FET and replaced it with an IC daughterboard. A few years ago they were able to start sourcing the FET again so the new ones are “good” again. I’ve never had a chance to compare them head to head in person but various people (including Klaus Heyne) claim the FET version sounds better. A normal person would probably never hear the difference but this is the kind of thing people like us obsess about. If you do some intense googling Klause Heyne talks about the daughterboard in some threads here and there. I can try to dig up his info on it when I get some time. When I unscrew the body mine says “Circuit Diagram 3” which was the last one before they switched to the daughterboard. Going by memory I think Circuit Diagram 4 and 5 had the daughterboard then 6 switched back to the FET?

It probably is the one with the daughter board, but I'll have to do some research.
