Beyerdynamic MC740. I’m interested to see how it sounds...Bob Olhsson says they sound like a U67, but others say it’s overly sibilant. Also, so more fuzz pedals. Voodoo Lab Proctavia, Stomp Under Foot Dirty Rooster, and a Phoenix Custom Electronics Little Red Rocket. Hope you like it!!! I never got along with it too well....

Grabbed a RMS269 that apparently has an actual Neumann K67 capsule of Reverb. We’ll see how it stacks up! Maybe I can talk Sound Emporium to let me go and use their M269 which is my favorite vocal mic I’ve used for 30 minutes to A/B the two I've been using mine on fiddle recently. RMS269 > ZOD DI > Weight Tank WT72 > LA2a > HD16. Very, very sweet sound. Hope you dig it!! Report back if you can. I believe mine has the standard capsule, but I'm not sure....

I might try and get Jim Williams to share his mods to help with the sibilance

I think it may be one or more capacitors that are the main cause of the harshness. Thanks for asking him about it Mike

Well the MC740 arrived DOA so back the seller it goes...
RMS269 arrive today so I’ll give that a try on tomorrow session
Also, because it was too cheap to pass up, I bought a 60’s Ludwig Club Date champagne sparkle kit, 20x14, 14x14, 12x8. I’ve strangely owned 3 of these now! Because I already have a set in this finish I’m hoping I can trade it for something I don’t. Also found a 17” Istanbul Agop Signature crash for $100 so had to snag it.
And, hey, I love fuzz pedals, a Mahoney Fuzzrite

I have a black oyster pearl Club Date in the same sizes, as well as a Rogers and Slingerland kit. I’ve been trying to consolidate my drums though and just have things I want forever, which are mostly the odd ball finishes. Wine red ripple, pink oyster, purple sparkle, lemon strata...but they are usually too expensive when they come up for sale

Buzz Audio DBC-20 Compressor, just pulled the trigger on Reverb, it was too cheap to pass up. Now the waiting game...

Thats encouraging. I'm fulling hoping this satisfies my compressor lust...at least for a time. Do you have any favorite uses for it?

Liked it for levelling things - ratio increases with gain reduction so it starts soft and gets more aggressive the more you push it. Drums, vocals, dynamic bass parts

An elysia xfilter landed in my rack today. I have to bring a session or two over and play around with some of your new gear one afternoon.

Picked up my Bellari LA-120 tube compressor, Saturday evening. Busy work schedule, so hope to record with it, this weekend. High plate voltage BTW. So...When I put in one of those "recently discovered" mint VF-14M tubes in it (wink), I'll be very careful! Chris

Just ordered a b-stock Kush Clariphonic MS off their website. $1300 instead of $2000 was too good to pass up. It's a pretty swanky piece of gear and I really need to stop spending money.

Just received my BLUE Woodpecker Ribbon Microphone yesterday. Some of the Brass is a little tarnished, but it sounds lovely! This microphone can be a little divisive with people either really liking what it does or not liking it at all, but then again in my experience most BLUE mics are like that. The Woodpecker was the first ribbon microphone I ever played around with, recording vocals and trumpet. If you expect the old school ribbon sound you'll be disappointed, but if your the kind of guy who likes the mellow nature of a ribbon, but wants a bit more clarity up top, this is the microphone. It's got a very different sound than my Altec 639a and will compliment it well. It's also a lot less noisy and self powered using 48V. Actually I think my Altec may need to be serviced, it's much noisier than I expect it to be and much noisier than I've heard in other samples online. I'm happy to have the Woodpecker here to take on some Ribbon duties; hopefully some trumpet and other brass recordings coming up soon.
