I got a nice powered hub made by plugable.com/products/ with very modern chips and firmware and a hefty power supply. I suspected my old hub was causing some trouble, and I think I was right!

Got a supposedly mint Bellari LA120 "vintage style" compressor, on the way. Reputed to be LA2A-like/nice n' smooth. For fun and learning, planning to shoot it out eventually vs. my buddy's LA2A & 1176 UA plugins. Low end hardware vs. software! Chris

Staying in the Soyuz vein. Liking the su-013 enough to order a matched set of omni capsules to go with the cardioids. Also picked a set of the Rycote inv-6's. I almost got the full matched set to begin with but couldn't cover the expense. Besides the cardioid and omni should cover all my needs. Hopefully...

Reporting back that the Speck via FADER is incredibly overbuilt. The chassis is a tank, like many of the Cali hand-built pieces I have in my setup. Waiting on a couple of cables from Redco and good to go.

Beyerdynamic MC740. I’m interested to see how it sounds...Bob Olhsson says they sound like a U67, but others say it’s overly sibilant.
Also, so more fuzz pedals. Voodoo Lab Proctavia, Stomp Under Foot Dirty Rooster, and a Phoenix Custom Electronics Little Red Rocket.

The mixcube got here Friday - and it’s almost had me second guessing all my recent purchase decisions as something so affordable and soo simple has had an incredible impact on my workflow/translation of final product. Seriously if you don’t have one of these/something like it - you’re really missing out.

Grabbed a RMS269 that apparently has an actual Neumann K67 capsule of Reverb. We’ll see how it stacks up! Maybe I can talk Sound Emporium to let me go and use their M269 which is my favorite vocal mic I’ve used for 30 minutes to A/B the two

The one thing that keeps me from Grabbing a MC740/834 is the way it cuts off the trailing edge of things almost like it has a built in gate, works greT on voice but every time I put it up on instruments it always bugged the crap out of it. Tone wise it always sat in a mix for me better than an 87 on voices where most would grab the 87. As far as sibilants, back off a bit and no problems, sibilanance is a sign that your to close for it to give you its real tone and body.

It will probably sound really nice. I’d be curious to hear your thoughts if you do AB it.

Juanita over there owes me a couple favors so I think I’ll grab a couple close singer friends and just go in there for an hour and see how it stacks up. I remember when they got their M269 because it was Garth Fundis’ mic that he used with Trisha Yearwood that he choose out of a group of 10. It just sounds done when a singer goes through it. If the RMS gets me 90% I’ll be happy.

Distressor. It seems like a very flexible audio wringer after first bite.
Oh, and an electric office table for adjustable height.

I bought MartinJohnButler's old Adcom amp for my NS10's. Jim Williams modded it for him and he did a great job, I'm really happy with it. I was worried the volume might not keep up, 60w I think?... but I'm glad to report that this thing blasts! Tons of headroom. I compared it to 200w QSC style PA amp, and this was just as loud to my ears, or at least as loud as I would go before I worry about the drivers. When I checked the PA amp versus this, sonically the Adcom delivers the NS10 tone and response, but noticeably clearer and transparent. I honestly never heard the fog in the in the PA amp until I compared it to this one. I also grabbed MJB's album on CD baby, and its great! Been driving around listening. I'm glad to know this setup still makes great music. store.cdbaby.com/cd/martinjohnbutler12

Maybe I can talk Sound Emporium to let me go and use their M269 which is my favorite vocal mic I’ve used for 30 minutes to A/B the two I’d been checking that out. The thing the makes me scratch my head is that Robert normally uses ADK capsules in his builds, or at least this build. ADK tunes their capsules, meaning they bake the sound they are after right into the capsule. I’ve had the ADK Z-Mod67, which uses the same capsule that Robert normally uses. There is no negative feedback filter built in the circuit of that mic. Or at least I don’t think so. They are using a 12AX7 tube, nothing special. So I don’t know how he would just swap an ADK capsule that’s already tuned for a Neumann K67 capsule that’s so bright it needs a NFB to tame the high end? Unless he redid the circuit specifically for this mic?

Sometimes I consider selling it when I feel guilty about having so much money wrapped up in reverb. But then I fire it up and it’s just sooo good. Too bad about the plugin control. That’s almost a must buy. Or WAS a must buy. I can’t imagine not having it.

I’ve seen a couple other people mention having actual Neumann capsules in their RMS269’s and the seller said it was an option you could custom order from RMS. We’ll see. He gave me a pretty good price for it ($1200) especially since it has a shock mount, box, and the newer power supply.

I was thinking about doing some DIY version of this. I'm real curious how you will find your mic to sound.

I kept putting other purchases in front of this but if I could go back in time I'd get one much earlier. It has sped up my workflow just because it's so easy to dial in. Unfortunately the plug in got discontinued the day my M7 shipped haha. Hopefully another developer will pick it up.
