Svartbox #2 Just landed here in the studio. My Lynx Hilo, which I love, started acting up and so I pulled my original Svartbox out of my mobile rig and put it in the studio on my master buss inserts. This is the first time I’ve had them back to back where I could AB them. Well, I’ll be... The Svartbox has a slightly better stereo image than the Hilo. Sounds virtually identical to the Hilo but a bit wider and slightly more open. So Svartbox#1 is gonna stay on my master buss inserts and #2 is gonna either replace the Hilo DA for monitoring or will go back into the mobile rig. I’ve previously praised this box by svart - but this recent test reconfirms what a great ADDA this is And I'll have one last one very shortly.. Sure you don't need at one more?

I picked up a couple of Rycote INV-7 mounts for the 013's. I was going to get the larger Shure donuts but I wasn't sure they'd fit.
Rycote is nice stuff.

I was gonna ask about one more the other day... just need to sell some other gear

Not a major purchase, but I needed a new guitar stand for my D-18 so picked up a Gravity with a self opening/closing headstock holder. It's built very solidly with thick tubing and wide splayed stable tripod feet.

Not a buy, but I just finished building "Old Turkey Head" which is my version of the Emerson Em Drive it's a nice harmonically rich boost in front of my AC30HW now

I think I’ve bought all the random fuzz pedals under $40 on Reverb. Got a Dingotone Classic Seventies Fuzz...which sounds like it’s just a silicon fuzz face

I just installed another 8 channel Yamaha MLA8 mic preamp. Now I have two, for a total of 16 channels. I use them for drums.
I am thinking a little bit ahead, I'm going to need another Presonus Quantum to make up the inputs. Right now I have a 9 channel drum mic setup.
My brother walked in and said, "Sounds like John Bonham." Unprompted, I'm not joking.
I think the MXL ribbon mic on the room position is a big part of this sound. Sometimes two for stereo rooms. R80 currently, R40 formerly (more low end.)
This mic pre is about $200-250 depending on your used deal. There are a ton of them on eBay right now.
These are literally my "console pres" because they are designs from the Yamaha DM2000 digital consoles.
Anyway I'm geeking out about my cheap preamps right now. About $25 per channel. They don't sound expensive but they sound better than the "interface pres" in my converters/interfaces, which is the whole point. The other main point is they have pads, phantom power, high pass filters, per channel, which is a lot better than my interface pres.

I'd like to try them in the inv-6 as well, it's a bit more compact. Attachments:

New house with a 9 x 7m room that isn't a complete health and safety hazard like my current room. That's 29.5 feet by 22 feet for those not on the metric system yet ..

Whoa, that's great shadow, good luck. Appreciate it Martin, you could hardly turn around in my old room without knocking a mic over or tripping over cables. As much as I like high end stuff it was all pretty useless due to the size of the room (plus it was treated so heavily it sounded like an anechoic chamber (which is rubbish for tracking) and still far from accurate when mixing), very much looking forward to having the freedom to attempt music properly. Number 1 Piece of high end gear in your arsenal, a good room.!

My knobs got installed on the sb4000 I'm building. I ordered another set to see if I like better but kind of dig this look. http://instagr.am/p/BvDkJZal0ix

How hard was the build? I haven't started mine yet.. Haven't finished mine yet haha Overall not bad I'd say. I started making mine years ago before I was better at building. I caught some mistakes this spring when I revisited it. Few wrong capacitors. Caved and bought a desoldering gun due to it haha also swapped all the molex connectors for screw terminals and I out all trimmer pots in place vs resistors. Hopefully have the case soon. Plan eventually is to use it as is for a bit then add the cavendash board to it. This will likely be my drum buss compressor.

I've been studying ions, electron valence, semiconductor doping, PN junctions, and so on today -- so forgive me for being slightly anal about a dB between friends. I was studying so long and hard today I still have a headache. Now I'm listening to Slayer and drinking beer. Work hard play hard? LOL. I agree with you 550 do rule. I only have the software versions though.

Audio-Scape Buss Compressor CAPI 16x4 SumBus. Speck via Fader VF16 Redco cabling. Let us know how you like the CAPI SumBus. Really digging the SB1 with knobs, but I don’t think it’s available yet?? I love my recent FC526 comp builds.

Just picked up 4 used Peavey QW 118 subs, had one for a bass/drum sub already, figured I'd set the new ones up in the tracking room as Texas headphones for drummers...
