Picked up a 62 reissue Strat to go with my 62 reissue bass. Great deal from a guy that looks like he never played it. Was just going to replace the 3 way switch with the 5 way but ended up putting a blender circuit in along with a no-load master tone. Don't know why I never had a Strat earlier, really loving it.

I use a "Deaf Eddie" switch in both of my strats. Mainly for Neck/Bridge combo that's usually not available. But to be forthcoming and pure of heart, I normally exist on neck only or bridge only. The strat is wasted on me. Those are two iconic sounds, though.

I just grabbed the Eventide Instant Phaser for $37. Today/tonight is the last chance for this price.
Anyway, I think it's fabulous. Really good set of controls, and sound. This is the phaser/flanger I think I needed.

I just put something similar in my '52 reissue Tele. Extremely cool, Keith all the way. Yeah, I just replaced a friend's v-mod with a 58 AVRI pickup in his Tele's bridge, much improved. After seeing what the no load tone does I might add one to his Telecaster to get even more out of it. I love the sound. Also considered installing a push/pull for the Strat's volume that switches from standard Fender to 50's Gibson wiring for even more options when I do have the tone engaged. Guess I'm getting greedy after wiring up a Jag recently, a headache but learned so much about circuit options.

I'm mostly a fan of positions 6 (neck and bridge) and 7 (all 3), but 69 is appealing too.

Massdrop HD6XX (Sennheiser HD650) just landed. Wow! Perfect transient response, bass feels large, image feels centered, top end is smooth, mega detail. This is going to be a fun day breaking these in... perfect activity for another rainy day.

Traded a beat up old Supraphonic for a pair of 14” K Special Dry Hi Hats. Nice option to have. Heavier than I was expecting

$50 VOCAL BOOTH The room I track in is a bit lively--great for drums and such but NOT great for setting up an LDC vocal mic. I don't have an iso booth so I simply made a three-sided enclosure using GROMMETED INDUSTRIAL BLANKETS and 4 simple hooks and wall anchors in the ceiling. The blankets already come with grommets and loops so they're simple to hang and take down when not using. It really does the trick--room ambience gone!

Got a new mini-drive for sample storage, a Samsung 256GB Fit Plus USB3.1:Read transfers are testing at 320MB/s, about 3x faster than my old 7200rpm spinner. New freebie software of the week is Native Instruments Komplete Start
I was considering one of their Komplete Kontrol KB last fall but went with a JD-Xi instead, in part because Komplete Kontrol only worked with NKS stuff. This new free version scanned all my existing third party VI's and plug-ins and loaded them into a stand-alone interface for patch-browsing and creating FX chains. Just getting started with MIDI-mapping the plug-ins to my Roland's knobs but it's looking like a pretty cool universal VI interface.

A 15" MacBook Pro 2.5GHz quad core i7 with 512GB SSD and 16GB RAM. I connect it to a TB2 dock in the studio, which provides the HDMI connection to a 34" ultrawide monitor, ethernet connection to a control surface, eSATA connection to a RAID-1 external drive and TB2 connection to a MOTU 16A. The mini-drive stays plugged into the MBP itself so I can use the sample-based instruments while sitting on the couch at home with the mini-keys Roland.

I'm looking at buying a Mac and-coming from a desktop PC- am not familiar with docks and external drives. Which dock did you buy and is there some kind of enclosure that the Raid-1 drive sits in that you connect via your esata connection?

Which dock did you buy and is there some kind of enclosure that the Raid-1 drive sits in that you connect via your esata connection? I've used a CalDigit Thunderbolt Station 2 since 2015, just one Thunderbolt cable and a power cord are connected to the MacBook Pro. The TS2 has a second Thunderbolt port that connects the MOTU 16A, an HDMI port that connects the second display, a LAN connection for the Audient ASP2802, two eSATA ports that connect a SATA drive dock for back-ups plus one of these NewerTech Guardian Maximus mini RAID enclosures. I put a pair of bare 750GB 2.5" 7200rpm drives in the enclosure and set it to RAID-1 so all projects are recorded to both drives simultaneously. There are three USB3 ports on the dock as well for an iLok, DVD burner, etc. There are newer generations of Thunderbolt docks, some even include drive enclosures. I like being able to take just the MacBook and RAID enclosure home to edit or play with mixes, and then dock it again in the studio with one cord to get the full hybrid rig going.

OWC - Other World Computing has some of the best stuff for this, Frank: external drive and GPU enclosures, docks, RAM upgrades, drive kits, etc.

I hear the Max Kircher mod is the bomb!! It’s overly dark. Some like it for that, but it’s a bit darker than a real U67.

Quickly, get an NOS tube. Preferably a Telefunken 806S. Although some folks think the 806s (small s) sounds better. 1960 seems to be the golden year for this electron bottle.
