Snagged a Daking 91579 off Reverb, so now I have a pair.
Also ordered a sE X1D for $79 new. Seems these are actually pretty decent front of kick microphones...we’ll see! I’ve been wanting something cheaper than the stuff I’ve liked in the past (FET47, Soundelux U195)

Pulled the trigger on second UM70 + 692 modded and serviced by both Andreas Grosser and Siegfried Thiersch to match my current UM70. I caught the Gefell bug. Thanks drbill.

My Stam SA2A finally arrived, haven't tested it yet... because a Wurlitzer 200 just showed up at my doorstep!!! Also have both and LOVE BOTH TO THE MOON! Cool! Some tips on recording the Wurly? I bought a restored unit and while it doesn’t have any bad noise or hum, its output level is kinda low. Not sure I’ll get enough gain going into the REDDI. Sounded great on my Fender Deluxe Tweed, better than the Twin Reverb. Internal speakers are also really cool.

Just picked up one of those modded Ampex 601s from Electric and Co. It’s now stereo with two killer di’s, and a pad that will take it down to line level. So far I’ve recorded bass into the di which sounds spectacular, acoustic guitar with my 70’s u87, and some vocals with the same mic. If you want a tube pre that sounds like tubes, this thing is for you. It even smells awesome when it heats up!

Get it to a tech and check the circuits going to the aux output. Then, use a DI into a high gain preamp if you need to. It was always customary to use something like an Electro Harmonix LPB1 back in the day to get a good level.

It's been a slow year. So far a bunch of cabling and connection plates for the new studio I'm building... well, the new studio building I'm into for about $50K or $60K so far (only my accountant knows for sure, today) but I did pick up a Samar VL37 which is mind altering. EDIT: Also purchased an old Gibson Tube Amp - 1961 Gibson Falcon Tube Amp GA 19 RVT. Only 204 of them were ever made, and this one is almost all original, and nicely shit-hauled. See attached. Only 204? Really? The rhythm guitarist in my first band in high school had one of those!

Most recent : The behringer cable tester I told Dan about...changed my life. Don't know why I didn't have a cable tester 2 decades ago.... Major blind spot for me. Saved me days in my new install.... I suppose the REAL gear is a band spanking new Jeff Hedback designed control room. If it doesn't sink me financially, it's going to be the most awesome tool I've had in a loooooooong time. Jeff is da MAN!!!! Other new stuff : An Orchestral Scoring engineer buddy of mine is selling out his ENTIRE mic collection (including 11 M50's) and I bought a some things I'd been looking for for years... : (couldn't afford the M50's though....) (2) KM86's (3) LCR KM53's (2) KM140's (2) KM150's (1) TLM170 AAAAaaaaand... an SM7 LOL Original version. Also ANXIOUSLY awaiting a new Dual LA2a from dandeurloo with a bunch of custom stuff built into it.... Come on Dan!! That cable tester must have saved you hours by now. LOL Fairly recent : (2) Moog 500 filters (2) additional Silver Bullets (1) Manley VariMu I gotta lay off the gear for awhile..... Hahahaaaaa!!! The behringer is a great copy of I can't remember who's BUT trust me buy a back up !! Love the test tones and the TT jack! I believe it's a rip of the Ebtech (by Morley) Swizz Army Knife, of which I have one. My advice is to skip the Behringer and buy the real thing 'cos it's bulletproof. Test tone, TT jacks, intermittent test.... Only things it really lacks are Speakon and maybe BNC.

I just scored a TNC ACMP1073 Neve preamp clone for dirt cheap because it has a very minor noise problem - when you tap on the case it acts very slightly microphonic. Gonna pop it open and go over the solder, which is the likely cause of microphonics in a solid state unit. If that doesn't do it I'll check the electrolytics to see if one has developed a loose lead.
I haven't had any Neve-ish pres because I'm not a "buncha different preamps" kinda guy, but it was really cheap and I'm curious to see what it might do on my voice.

I've got a pair of ACMP84s and a pair of ACMP81s, think I've replaced all the electrolytics in them at this point, they can be cantankerous. I'm not really a "buncha different preamps" guy either, waiting on a pair of Stam 1073EQs so I can pick and choose between Chineve and Chilneve.

I've had several. No problems here, but they are in racks and I don't tap on them. I sold the 81's, sold some of the 73's, now have 2 84's and 3 73's and have never had a problem with any of them. IMO, they are as good as some of the current "clones".
