I just got two mics in this week
SA-47 ... it took a while (and about 100 chaser emails) but it got here. Initial test sounds great on my voice. Smooth top end, full-bodied sound. AR-51 ... Initial tests sound good. Airy top and a nice contrast to the Stam 47

So this mic rules. I only had a chance to briefly test it on some vocals before I had to run out again, but it’s everything I was hoping for. Warm but present, almost no sibilance, and dead quiet. My voice sounded more finished then it has on my previous go to mics, and that familiar, old school German tone is there in spades. It’s like a mild distortion in the midrange when pushed that almost feels like natural compression. I can hear it on the newer u87’s too, but they seem to close down a little quicker than this one does. Maybe it’s the lower gain. I did have around 45 dB up on my preamp, but still dead quiet. I’m happy with my purchase!

I'd be curious (If I were you) to take the serial number, and figure out what exact year your U87 was made in.
In any event, congrats on owning a piece of history! Chris

That how i remember the vintage 87s we used. Just sounded done.
Great mic. Truely the work horse of all mics. Nothing ever sounds bad in it ever. Others may sound better for some things, but you won't ever get a bad sound from a good U87

Yeah, the 87 IS a workhorse. I've recorded entire albums with mine.
Next up for you should be the inner tube tube insert for the 87. It will give you another mega-classic inserted into the 87.

I was talking to Grizzly Bear about some of their earlier/getting famous albums they used an old U87 for a lot of it, with a Chandler TG2.
I was like dammmmnnnnn I want to sound like that!

Not gear, per se ...but I had the body on one of my strats replaced. This guitar started life as a cheap strat copy from Guitar Fetish. Early on I replaced the pickups with Klein Jazzy Cats, then I replaced the neck and tuners. The only thing left of that cheap clone was the body which weighed about 16 tons. This flame maple over swamp ash replacement from Warmoth weighs in at just under 4 pounds. Now there's nothing left of the GF clone I originally bought except the case.

Chris I’ll have to get in touch with Neumann. The connector had been changed on mine at some point from the Tuchel to the modem XLR. Apparently they change the serial number when they do that, but I’m assuming they have a record of all that. Anyone know up to what year they used the older connectors?

I just grabbed the Vacuum from AIR as well since it was also only a dollar (77 cents in my case) this one sounds totally different, more dirty and funky, it's cool. I've only been playing with it for a few minutes but I'm having some good ideas and sounds. I'm starting to compose a little thing with it. You are right... the bundle looks very tempting. I could not resist, bought the AIEP3 bundle on the last day, should have it all downloaded in a week or so. Will have to stick these sample library installers on their own drive, never want to go through this download process again. Paid for the Roland synth on Sunday morning, still no shipping info, looks like I'll be requesting a refund through Reverb tomorrow if I get no tracking info by then. edit: Tracking info posted today, will be delivered on Saturday, praying it's not a Roland box filled with empty beer cans. Maybe it will be stuffed with Neumann TLM102s? AIEP3 is back on sale for $75, I just picked up the last three expansion packs for Hybrid 3 and the last two for The Riser that I didn't own yet, splurged for $5. Originally went there for the free Ozone Elements license and have since picked up free Neutron Elements and Vocal Doubler licenses as well. Focusrite's Plug-in Collective has re-posted their last four giveaways, downloaded d16's Sigmund delay and Frontier limiter, AudioThing's SR-88 drum machine, Valve Filter and Valve Exciter plug-ins, Positive Grid's BIAS Amp 2 LE modeler, as well as two free sound packs from Applied Acoustics Systems. Cool they keep giving out software for registering an ISA One years ago. Positive Grid also gave away a license for their BIAS Pedal Modulation Pack, had the Distortion Pack already from another giveaway. Native Instruments has a a giveaway of their TRK-01 Kick and Bass instruments for Reaktor 6 Player and Heavyocity has a free Gravity Pack loop library as well. Lots of virtual stocking stuffers to go with the hardware presents under the tree.

Really like that Sigmund delay for "crazy" sound FX stuff... Positive Grid Bias is next level amp sim technology in my opinion, been using it on a few tracks.

Pro-Q 3 upgrade for $47, via the latest holiday sale. But a plugin is hardly new 'gear', is it?

And then there's this... I have one regret about this Coil Audio CA-70S purchase...not buying a pair. This thing is SWEET.

Got the PCM42 in! Hell yes! the 42 is missing the Delay x1 x2 button cap. But thankfully the seller is sending me a new one. Must have fallen off during packaging. Glad he was cool about it and had a spare! Rack is looking good. Need a patch bay now and some cabling and need to move a Furman over here. Hoping the Midas L10 will show up this week. Have two more DIYRE EQP5s coming that im going to put different transformers in. Next will be a Serpent SB4001 and a new computer and hopefully my own PT HD rig. Just gotta decide on either a HDX system or Native. Leaning Native.

Blackdawg I think we have very similar taste in gear, I love that rack! Im loving it too! Slowly but surely getting all the goodies. have a looonnnnggg list left to go. But this is a great start. Really think I want just one more SPX90ii and one more PCM42 and I'll be happy with outboard effects. its the compressors I need in my life next. And a few more EQs. and...well everything

Blackdawg wondering why I can't see the pics? Hmm Im not sure. I can and I assume others can. Hosted via Google and using the link photo function on here. I will admit as a long time forum user, this ProBoards software is the worst I've ever used. No offense to John. It would be nice if he used the more popular and modern software..which name is escaping me. But makes things like photo sharing much much easier.
