Guitar, I just can't believe how amazing the Yamaha records. Just a KM84, 12" off the 14th fret, up about 3 inches and angled down at the 'dot' and tun into a 1073, bit of HPF at 50cycles, into an 1176 f taking about 3-4 db off the wild peaks./. That's it!!

Ward I believe you! I've got a sub-$100 SX acoustic here with a warped neck joint that sounds pretty amazing in front of a good microphone. I'd really like to try one of the "nice" modern Yamaha acoustics. I think Billy Corgan is touring with those. They're still way cheaper than USA guitars, even at the top of the range.

I picked up a Larrivee dreadnaught at a shop in Black Mountain a few months ago. I didn't love it either. It's so hard to pick out an acoustic guitar. Funny . . . the main 4 acoustics that get work in my studio (house guitars) are 1. 2007 Yamaha LL11 (used on the bay for under a grand) 2. 1973 Martin D28 (buys 4 Yammahas) 3. Gibson's 2000 historic reissue version of the J45. (buys 6 Yamaha's) 4. 2015 Martin 000-16 (buys 3 Yamahas) Funny how we often equate price with value. That Yammy blows my mind when recorded. But I don't enjoy just playing it To often people listen to the make and model, not the actual instrument. I was in GC the other day and some guy was playing this really nice Schecter strat body with 2 humbuckers sounded absolutely killer $800 bucks, switches to a American made fender custom shop same layout and it just sucked the tone out. Guy thought the Fender was the one even though he was saying the neck and action sucked the Fender was better because “ it says Fender and costs more”. Should have seen the look on his face when I said Knofler and Towshend played Schecter for a good part of the 80’s.

Received a piece from my mentor. He’s had at least one of these in his studio for all the years we’ve worked together. Uses two these days. I can’t wait to start using it, but man there is a lot to learn about this mixer. Time to start reading. http://instagram.com/p/Bn_jxKuFAes

I set up a little group shot of my Supros since I'm mildly proud of my small collection. Second from left is the new Westbury. They are blowing them out at Sam Ash right now.

New workbench, well new to me $25 at the local office furniture / electronics recycler. This is the perfect type of desk for a console, both the top and frame are designed to vary weight without sagging. If I were to mount the DDA, I would remove the top and bolt the console frame directly to the desk frame. If I were to mount the DDA and a patchbay and / or a producers desk I would mount some steel bars across the desk frame and bolt every thing to the bars. This type of desk can be found in lengths up to at least 8 feet. Oh I also grabbed a little Radio Shack electronic reverb because it was there, it was stupid it was $5 and to Nerf dart guns for the same reason imgur.com/gallery/EyY9lwl

APS Aeon 2 studio speakers. They're wonderful. Best speakers I have ever heard personally.

Latch Lake MicKing 2200. Seriously??? This thing could hurt someone. A solid mic stand can relieve a lot of stress. When it first arrived, I put my Flea on the sturdiest stand I had at the time and I could feel my sphincter tighten. I rushed through a test track because I wanted to get that mic off that stand as quickly as I could. As soon as the mic was safely back in it's box, I ordered an Atlas Sound MS25 and an Ultimate Support MC-125. Both myself and my sphincter are much more relaxed now.

Threw down on a new pair of ATC SCM12 Pro monitors...selling my 3 other sets to pair down to 1 for mixing at home.
Also bought a Blue Mouse...probably the 3rd one I’ve owned. They are great mics I need to stop selling them.
Also, a 20” Slingerland bass drum I’m mostly going to use for parts...but it could be a nice drums

My dad asked what I wanted for my birthday next month. A pair of these showed up on my doorstep today. These should pair nicely with my recently acquired Mesanovic Model 2S to put all my preamps in play.

Let us know how you like the McBoost. I've had those on my wishlist for a while.

Slate Pro Audio Dragon compressor. Really excited to put it through its paces, but also really curious about how it stacks up with other clones! Attachments:

I quite by accident stumbled into a project creating a song for a film short. I'll be busy with that for a bit but maybe next week I'll get a chance to give the McBoosts a go. I'd like to run Mesanovic through all four of my outboard pres and see how each sounds with it. My current room situation (way too small) isn't great for a ribbon mic. I really bought that mic for when I move out of here and upsize in the coming months. But maybe I can get something less than terrible if I use a couple of gobos on the back side.

Well, the Blue Mouse I bought was DOA, but the eBay seller seems very legit so hopefully my refund will arrive quickly...
But I snagged an AML 54F50 for a good price and stumbled into a Rosac Nu-Wah fuzz (amazing) and a Telestar branded Shin Ei FY-2 Companion fuzz.

I’m definitely looking forward to hearing it! I originally planned on building the ez2254s but the added features on the 54F50 will make it more flexible.

I just picked up the Elysia MusEQ plugin for $54. I'm pretty excited because I now own every Elysia plugin. They are all just so good. They've got a sale going and a survey coupon at Plugin Alliance.
Also got Izotope Ozone Elements and Boz Little Clipper for a dollar I think. Plugin Boutique is/was doing some sort of promo. Thanks, @smallbutfine

NewerTech Guardian MAXimus mini - $50 for the empty RAID-1 case and $60 for a pair of 750GB 7200rpm 2.5" drives at OWC's constant garage sale. Running it as my audio drive over eSATA, 120MB/s read/writes and immediate redundancy.
JBL M-Patch Active-1 - $50 at ProAudioStar. I use my Audient console for monitor control/talkback, but the powered monitors in the tracking room have individual volumes so this adds in room control for playback adjustments, as well as lets me plug in alternative sources like a phone or...
Roland JD-Xi White Edition - $340 off Reverb. I was shopping all month for a MIDI controller after getting Logic Remote working on a new-to-me iPad and playing with virtual instruments. Was close to getting an Akai Advance or NI Komplete Kontrol but decided something that can sit in the tracking room with the band without a computer connected made more sense here. It will plug into the M-Patch Active-1 and be ready to play during a session then can come home with me for tinkering during down time.
AIR Hybrid 3 and two expansion packs - $3 at pluginboutique to get Ozone Elements free. I just wanted to try Ozone, then I played with Hybrid longer than I should have, all of the sudden I'm shopping for MIDI controllers and before you know it I'm buying a $340 used synth! I don't even make electronic music, how does this happen?

Sort of reminds me vaguely of a cross between my Moog slim phatty and my Roland Alpha Juno. I'm having a lot of fun withe wavetable sounds. Pretty ridiculous to have all of these sounds for less than 10 bucks.

New Eventide SP2016 Reverb plugin update for $29. Now comes with all three algorithms from the original 80’s hardware, as opposed to just Stereo Room. Also has Vintage or Modern modes.
Always been one of my faves. Has an uncanny knack of blending seamlessly with the source and mix, despite sounding quite artificial when hearing it 100% wet.
Currently 32 bit VST is crashing all three of my hosts, but hopefully they’ll sort it soon.
Here’s hoping they’ll also add it to the H9 one day!
