stam - are you doing limited runs of your gear or will you be manufacturing as long as people are buying? Congrats looks like a beauty and price is fantastic!

No offense to Danderloo but the most expensive part of a GSSL is the case ! If he has someone to do metal work cheap in bulk no problem.

youre right i guess. the case was half the cost of mine. still though. it takes a days work to build calibrate test etc. plus shipping to chile. the warm la2a is supposedly coming out at $899. the stam is cheaper and comes with keneteks, cinemags and rca's. ?

This is exactly what I'm thinking as well. That SA2A is looking pretty damn good right now. I believe it's still at $790 but $890 with the Kenetek's. Is there that much of a sonic difference between the Drip and Kenetek T4's?

Come on ericn, it has been all but announced. If it's anything other than a 2A, there will be a lot of disappointed people, except perhaps the folks at Stam. So say it's a 2A - The proof will be in the pudding; it won't be long before someone shoots out the exotic SA2A with the "truthy" "supposed" WA2A. I'm with porkyman; let's preemptively take it to the next level. Of course, then it becomes ironic that the name of this site is "RealGear."

DIY is great but all those costs add up v.s. buying a manufactured unit. Both the Warm and Stam are viable options: moaning the landed costs blues as the Cdn buck continues to tank. Getting up to $12-1300 Cdn landed.

I forget the name but I think there is good boutique microphone manufacturer out west (Alberta ?) And always check Studio Economik in Montreal but they ship internationally and have great selection and used stuff regularly. www.economik.com currency selector top right, by brand and manufacture mid left an check its sales and used tabs. musicdirectorycanada.com/pdf/recequipment.pdf

Is there that much of a sonic difference between the Drip and Kenetek T4's? I think these SA2A's are sold out? I don't think he's doing another run either, or so he's said. So, Warm shouldn't have any competition worries from Stam, if that's true. Also, $790 was an attractive price, but there was PayPal and shipping costs from Chile added on top, making this SA2A cost more like $1k.

Thanks for making that clear, the SA2A is still shown as available to order on Stam's website. I didn't realize the PayPal and shipping prices were so expensive. Makes it an easier choice for me. I didn't want to miss out on something really nice like I did during the D4 run. At this rate though, there will be plenty of affordable great gear options in the future. Pick and choose....

and duties ,like any international transaction you have pay pay fees, currency exchanges, shipping (insurance), import duties and local taxes.
Not putting down buying internationally but remember all these actual costs are imbedded in your local retailers price plus their overhead and what happens if something goes wrong: more costs.

A couple of points.
I am able to sell at this price for 3 reasons, first of all bulk purchasing, it reduces cost by over 50% or more and the SSL has no expensive parts in it. No transformers, no tubes, etc..
Secondly, I don´t use reatilers nor distributors, they normally add an extra 25%-35% to the final price.
Third, I work with small margins but enough obviously to keep me going.
I don´t charge Paypal fees, I don´t charge shipping insurance and there are no import duties with my units, we have a free trade agreement with almost every part of the world, you just pay VAT, like anywhere.
If something is wrong I solve it, if it can´t be solved I pay for the retun of the shipment. This is why I makre sure to triple check every unit and to pack it safely.
I will not make anymore 2A´s.
With regards to the Kenetek, it´s identical to the UREI T4B on the original LA-2A, it´s the single most important component.

I know the SA2A is a great deal even with shipping - I missed out on this run. You're website says you can still order the SA2A. I almost preordered one yesterday......may want to update the site. Good luck with the SSL clone - I hope it sells as well as the SA2A.
