Give us your impressions, wiz Box survived the trip really well, it was superbly packed... double boxed... great stuff. Unit is impeccable to look at. Knobs and buttons look and feel great. VU is bright! Its white, I like yellow. Wonder if I can swap it out? Panel lettering is really suave. Plugged it in. Sounds really really incredible. Really really good gear, IMHO, makes music sound better just going through it... this does that. Its been a long wait, painful at times.... thats fading fast though..8) It sounds a million bucks. Well done stam ... really well done. cheers Wiz

What are users feeling about the no HPF ?
Not an an issue or ? Are people simply using an eq before for filtering if need be ?
Thx!

If necessary I just use the sidechain input and eq some lows out of that. A million great records have been made with SSL buss compressors that didn't have a high-pass filter. If I have a problem with my mix, it's probably not the compressor.

One thing I've noticed about the HW compared to the SW is how it deals with the low frequency...the HW doesn't seem to "collapse" as much with low frequencies...Like, it doesn't freak out and pin the needle

Very good point, I was just curious ! Actually, it's kind of nice to have that data point of "a lot of killer records have been made using this piece of gear in this way so this thing won't hold you back from doing something well." It's like a really passive mastering engineer hanging out in my room. If I'm doing something stupid with the low end - which I've done many times - my rack-mounted mastering engineer friend (who I'm not paying so they won't ACTUALLY give me answers) says "isn't that bass doing something a little weird here? Too much, yeah?" I'm new enough (or bad enough) in this whole mixing thing to know that I'm likely to let my judgement doze off at the wheel. It's super helpful to know I've got a piece of gear that'll wake me up when I'm swerving into the oncoming lane.

Digital is FLAT to DC (0Hz) and always MUCH harder ITB to get the bottom right because there is just so much more of it.

Now we seam to have a professional rush to the most compact monitoring system!

I finally received my SA4000 bus compressor πππ
Have not plugged her in yet, does anyone else's knobs on their sa4000 stick out different lengths ? Two of my knobs are about a half inch further out than the rest. The knobs that click with precision all sound nice when switching, twisting the knob from one parameter to the next even though they are different lengths from the chassis. The knobs that are variable like threshold and gain are smooth as butter when rotated..
Stellar look aesthetically, my g/f and mother agree which says something. My Mom thought it was her package til she signed for it and realized it came from Chile π That's when I hobbled up and told her thank you for signing for the 10 kilo's π¬π³ Haha

View Attachmentuess what came today after I got home from my mastering session. Do any of your knobs stick out farther then the other? Wow your outside box was treated nicely, mine was trashed and looked like the package from the opening of Ace Ventura pet detective πππ finally got some trs's after a long roundabout excursion so looking forward tom power her up! After I switch from 230 to 115 of course

I put mine through a few paces today against the RJR and the Waves SSL and I did notice some things.
1) This grabs the way I expect an SSL to grab, slap it on drums with the CLA 410Auto (Ratio: 4:1, Attack at 10 and Auto Release doing about 4db of reduction) setting or put the attack at 30 and the release at fastest and you'll get something really cool happening on a drum group.
2) I feel I can be a lot heavier handed with the hardware unit and it doesn't "cave in" like the plugin. At mild settings it is pretty hard to tell but with the hardware I'm betting I could easily pick it out against the plugins at more extreme settings. If you're not doing anymore than 4db I can't see myself passing a blind A/B test but at extreme settings the Stam seemed to stay solid.
3) I feel the metering on the Stam is a lot better than on my RJR but I will need to test a little bit more, I currently have the Stam on my drum group and the RJR on the mix but I will for sure trying swapping them and seeing what happens. I can look over at the Stam and see what I'm doing and how the compressor is behaving very easily.

Any feedback on knobs?
My release knob is sticking out twice as far as the other knobs and I can press it in, whereas the others are flush/ mounted with no give, meaning you can't push the button in and hear a click. How do I reseat or reset this knob properly?
Don't want to pop it off with a flathead to find out I fu**** my sa4000 release knob up without using it first π

For the real SSL knobs (which are a GIANT pain in the ass), you pop off the top of the knob (colored part) and then there is a place you can get a flathead screwdriver in to loosen it up and then place the knob where you want it. Careful, you can damage the skirt of the colored part and be really pissed at yourself... not that I speak from experience or anything haha.
Post office tried to deliver my unit today but the shop was closed for the weekend. Bummer! I'll have to wait till Monday!

I have not opened mine yet. I have a remote recording gig tomorrow so I might not get to the studio until Monday. I'll let you know about knobs. One thing about Stam, he doesn't cut corners on shipping . Things are double boxed etc.
