So here's the new CV3 and RS124 that I got. Shannon killed it as usual...We are still dialing it in, but other than maybe just a little more bottom (or maybe a little less mid?), I don't know what else I would do. The RS124 adds this buttery, velvety quality to it IMO...I hit it pretty hard so you could hear it.

For God's sake, somebody suggest something different for me to sing...
BTW - no EQ on these.

Let's hear the same track through an unmodded one now. My CV-3 is un-moded, John. You are welcome to borrow it for a comparison.

Sounding damn good! Maybe slightly less air on it than your ol' Shan'd CV4, but plenty of meat and body - and of course he did a great job in smoothing out the highs beautifully, as per usual.

First raw sample with the CV3 sounds fantastic!!!!! The RS124 sounds like its melted with butter in a hot glowing room...again, fantastico. Johnkenn how do you compare the Sta to the RS124 and are you missing the Burl at all?

Thank you so much for posting this, Johnkenn!! Now I have absolutely ZERO interest in buying an RS124. The CV3 on the other hand? Well, Shannon is a genius.

I agree that Shannon is a wizard, but what's wrong with the RS124? I've only heard John's sound clip of it in use, but it sounds damn good to me there.

Just want to add - I wouldn't compress that much in a real situation. And I'd slow the attack down too.

Not really. The only think I hear is it getting a bigger bottom and more velvety. It's over-compressed because you can hear it working a bit, but that was just so you could hear the sound of the compressor. In a mix, I'm not even sure you would hear that anyway.

John ran a vocal file for me the other day, and the comp sounds badass. Vocal fit perfect. Yeah, it's a creamy comp alright. T'aint nuttin' wrong wit it.

I'll run that through again at more modest levels.

Both files are un-eq'd and had bottom thump you would typically roll off in a mix setting as well. That is probably what you are hearing. Any tube compressor would do the same thing below 100hz.

While you are at it, can you do one with the vocal high passed at 85, John?
