OK, I tried it out today, really great on almost any source, just so much control available, so many useful tones. Very happy with the purchase.

I see somebody posted this a while back on another forum:
"these look a lot like they were modeled on the Retro Instruments which are very high quality modern clones of the STA (Mk1), the 176 (Mk 2) and then the Doublewide (Mk 3) which is a modern 500 series take on the Variable gain tube compressor".

Regan those emulations sound pretty good. Good move on the Shadow Hills too. I think it's one of the best software comps out there. And this new Sta Level plugin. It really is. I've used it in demo mode many times and it always brings something I can't get with other comps. What's the Sta Level plugin you're digging? Ahh yes, The MJUC. Bought that the minute it was out. It is great. FWIW, I just built myself and ISO cab and being able to just listen to what's going to tape (sitting in front of the monitors playing) has me feeling like a kid in a candy store. Been swapping pickups and messing with mics and pres. Anyway, I just did a comparison. With a 57 on the cab, I tracked two rhythm guitars (Tele and a Gretsch Duo) and panned them wide. One round with the Heritage 1073, one with the WA12 and one with the Apollo Unison 1073. Now, the Heritage and WA12 tracks went through the Burl so it's not scientific. But I preferred the Unison 1073 in this case! I need to run one with the Heritage into the Apollo and not the Burl cause I think the Burl was smoothing things out in a way I didn't want on these guitars. Either way, I'm impressed. I think for now I'll leave the two mics in the ISO cab running through the Unison 1073 and I can leave my vocal mic(s) plugged into the Heritage/Burl and not have to swap things around all the time. I will say too, sitting there messing with the Unison 1073 (driving it, EQing) and then running through the UAD Rev E 1176 and spanking it up is just too damn much fun. UA has created quite a little tracking paradise for a small studio guy like me. The realtime, analog-console feel of their Console App is so cool. I still love my little collection of hardware but you could get almost anything you want done with just an Apollo in my opinion.
