Just saw these guys over the weekend. Sounded amazing live. I'm not a big heavy metal guy but these guys really impressed me. Super professional, super cool, super talented. And they run a tight ship with their tour. I took a photo of their guitars at sound check.

Cool pic -- They're one of the few metal bands that still interest me --- I saw them around 2002 and the main thing I remember was their drummer was insanely good, but the bands vocal's left a lot to be desired. I'm guessing their live vocal chops have improved over the years! I always liked their non traditional sound......... seemed more natural/organic compared to most metal.

Mastedon is a monster band. I think more heavy-discerning people would categorise most of their catalogue as stoner rock (The track you posted would be a good example of that), but they do get screaming heavy at times. You could check out... Red Fang - Murder the Mountains. Truckfighers - Universe for a journey further along the same kinda path. Gustav  |

Mastodon do sound great live. They're also really nice guys - one of my friends couldn't make their gig cause he broke his leg. He's a bass player and a huge fan of the Mastodon bassist - so the dude literally rang him and talked to him for like 20 minutes on the phone.

That Red Fang record was partially recorded at Blackbird and mixed there by Vance Powell. Fun RGO connection.

One of the few metal bands that I love as well. On a side note - A couple weeks ago I went to buy their new album, Once More 'Round the Sun, in a local CD store here (yep, they still exist). My 5 year old had to go to the bathroom really bad and the dude at the store says they have a strict "no bathroom for customers policy." I look at the kid like he's crazy (I get it shoplifting) and say "he's 5." "Sorry sir...." I hand him the Mastodon CD "here hold this for me" he says he'll put it aside for when I come back. "Great, you do that but not coming back....." douchebag Killer f&$#^*' band though  |
