I'm really excited to see this. I honestly wouldn't have guessed this would have happened, not because of talent or songwriting, but because of the traps that music award shows fall into in terms of fashionable trends. Chris Stapleton winning these awards is a big deal for not only Country music but for music in general. Traveller is the first and only Country album I have ever bought thanks to a vid that Herbie posted earlier this year. I really couldn't speak to the fact that it's real Country music or not but Stapleton is just a monster talent. He can do country, blues, rock, soul and R&B at a level higher than most concentrating on just one of those genres.....and that's just on his 1st CD lol. Randge - although it may not be real country you have to admit that these awards and recognition are great for Nashville and the raw, authentic production? Absolutely. I love Chris. He is a brilliant artist, no doubt. There have been several guys like Kevin Denny, who have had big deals and they didn't know what to do with them. I am a big fan and have been after him to get in here and cut a record with me. Mo Pitney is the latest of the next generation. Maybe this will allow him to cut some deeper tunes than they have allowed him to do.

I'm not trying to suck up or anything with this post trust me, but there a very few musicians in the world who can rise to an occasion like that performance we are talking about above. We here at RGO are very blessed to have one of those guys right here with us everyday. Everybody here knows that Randy is a top player, but I'll bet many don't know to what extent. Randy Is IMO more talented than Chris. I've seen and heard him do it all. Fears nothing which is rare. Let's don't forget our own Thanks, Cowboy. That means a lot coming from you. You have a hellova lotta skills too, brother. I admire people who can build their own productions, sing and play with meaning and feeling and make music that goes far beyond the dollar bill and into the gut. You my friend, are that guy.

It's definitely a GK 1001RB or 2001RB head, and I think the cabs are GK Neo's. They do look similar to EBS.

hmm.. that's kinda rude bigbone. Here we have a thread praising a singer/songwriter who's been at this for decades, and finally getting his due, and you're laughing at him?
If it's not your kind of thing that's cool, but Chris Stapleton's got plenty of soul in his bones. It's Justin Timberlake that doesn't quite do it for me, but I respect him nonetheless. He's a killer piano player, and a serious hardworking professional. I think he did really well in this instance, and rose right up to the occasion.
And you've done exactly what, I might ask?

Justin Timberlake is a talented vocalist whether you like the sound of his voice or not. Chris Stapleton (as you can see) is a masterful vocalist with a generational voice. He is the real deal.
(I think Bigbone is a Francophile so nuance can get lost in translation) Obviously the song they are singing "Tennessee Whiskey" is a bluesy, southern rock inspired ballad with elements of gospel, R&B and a soulful delivery. He's not trying to be groovy or to add more R&B flavor to it just because Justin is on stage with him. Actually, if anything Justin is trying to sing more in Chris' southern blues stylings.
C'est tout!

Remember when the first 'Bro Country' song because successful and then about 1000 of those cutie pie high school quarterback barely country hick-hop boys flooded the market?
I wonder, are we in danger of being overwhelmed by country-soul singers? (fingers crossed)

Chris Stapleton was super awesome, congrats to him, Dave Cobb, and others like Vance Powell whom worked on that record; so great all the way around and well deserved accolades.

i have to admit that i'm really let down after my initial introduction to Chris Stapleton was via this:
and then listening to some cuts on his record. His record is boring compared to that live band performance. if his album was that live band playing, then he would be awesome. but the songs i listened to weren't. so, i am not hearing what you guys are hearing, other than that this guy has a great voice.
he should do an album singin' with that band from the CMA's. THAT would sell like crazy.

Because you don't like the songs on his record doesn't mean he should change what he's doing and go big band. How bout this, you do what you do and let the rest of the world do what they do. Sound about right? I personally like every song on his record. It's the same kind of materiel he and I grew up listening to. We didn't listen to much big band.

I find the lyric content in the JT song so teaspoon deep that it makes me nausous. If Stapleton were to do a record of that kind of stuff, I sure wouldn't be buying it.

Now now, Cowboy, don't be too hard on old banned Chuck. I hear what's he's intimating about the magic and energy in the live performance versus the somewhat static nature of a studio album.
Maybe we can just cross our fingers for a Chris Stapleton live record and then everyone will be content!

exactly. i'm an instrumentalist and musician. i'm not a singer-songwriter like you guys are. for me, a dope band will get me every time over lyrical content or nice voices. that's why Dirty Loops does it for me, that's why Rascal Flatts's productions do it for me. I'll take a badass guitar solo any day over some boring acoustic-guitar-only vocal song. Go read the interview he gave about rehearsing with JT's band. he talks about how much fun it was playing with that group, how it was 'One of the best times I’ve ever gotten to have". www.ew.com/article/2015/11/07/chris-stapleton-justin-timberlake-collaborationWhen's the last time you went to a jam session with your guitar, cowboycoalminer, and just shredded and jammed for hours?

It's been years since I got to jam like you're talking. Been busy building interstates for the last couple of decades.
I loved that performance they did on the CMAs. Who wouldn't want to play with a band like that you know? My point to his album which you felt was boring was that he wrote most of that right after his dad died a couple years ago. His dad was a fine man and a true pillar in our community who we all admired. The title track Traveler comes to life knowing what Chris had just went through. Same with Daddy Doesn't Pray Anymore.
It's like listening to therapy. Take another listen sometime and use your heart to hear it instead of technically charting out the music. Bet you'd be surprised.
