With crap like this being the most popular music out there and royalties at an all-time low (see threads on streaming), I must honestly admit that I have little to no faith in mankind's pursuit of good music. You don't need to be good at an instrument. You don't need to be good at singing. you don't need to be a good lyricist. you don't need to be GOOD AT MUSIC. just churn out trash, nobody cares anymore or is even listening to the product. I can't believe this shit even made it past the demo phase. Solo voice, trap hi-hats and Kick, Synth Bass with no envelope. That's all it takes nowadays.

I shall not hit play and give it credence.

Are they distorting the reverb to get that effect? Not very effective in this song.
Because there are so many inexpensive plugin effects, people are gonna use them, often to poor results.

:50 in, I'd had enough. This was/is a hit, I take it. Now, Kendrick Lamar, King Kunta.. I can dig.

Kendrick's focus on his virtuosity is a lot of what has gotten the "Uncle Tom" comments thrown his way. A lot of the trap stuff at the moment is just about getting "turnt".
That said, I'm listening to The Dead Milkmen atm. I'd be lying if I said virtuosity was a big deal to me. The whole "tasty licks, tasty singing" world of Snarky Puppey, Ed Sheeran and such is just too by-the-books for me.

I get this, I'd rather listen to one chord i believe than an orchestra of BS, for me i usually get excited by clear virtuosity thrown to the wayside in lieu of danger! pushing to the edge or your ability creates excitement.. Zeppelin style, punk rock gets me for a song or 2 before i'm bored, the careful R&B thing is a total bore, Stevie Wonder is the standard bearer "real deal" as far as thats concerned IMO, he's musically free and you can feel it, haven't heard that in R&B for some time, it's WAAAAY to contrived for my taste. on topic, the above "music" doesn't bode well for the future..... edit; The Lamar is great, it's amazing what a live band can do! even with backing tracks, i like that!

Edit: I should have put the quote in there, for content first... from tonycamphd If I see one more guitarist bend the 7th to the octave tonic on the b string, close his eyes, open his mouth and turn his head sideways... I'm going to puke and demand my money back!
