Was in Big Dudes the local MI shop today and there's this used Rode K2 I think tube mic and I kept thinking Gee wonder what Shannon could do with this ? if i mod the rest of that mic, and Shan does the capsule, it'd be killing it! I have one that i modded with Tim's C12 capsule, it's really great, but just a bit sibilant, i'd like to get Dr. Shannkenstein to do his magic, i bet it'd be unreal. nah I'd rather have Toneking/ Shannon Rhoades do one of my m49 bodies! When I go 251 it will be a worthy Body! |

category5 suggested a Rode NT2...I might try that route.

Drop me an email at tim@timcampbell.dk Man, I'm sure it's hard to please everybody all the time...Put a little air in it and people complain it's sibilant, take it out and people say it's dark. (Not referring to you, Tony) the mic sounds really good, i've figured out how to cut the sibs down by approach angle, though i really appreciate Tim's offer, i don't think it's necessary, it's one of the best sounding mics i've ever used. |

Yeah - that was one of my things with the original CV4 mod. It sounded reeeeealllly great...but it didn't have all the mods that the newer ones had. It probably could have sounded even better, but I was always too scared to have Shannon change anything.

Man, that is a ringing endorsement, folks...Rolff heads up the rentals at Blackbird and has heard every example of sterling vintage mics you can imagine. Thanks, rolffz! I am following up on the info I submitted a few days ago here. The mic (I need to give it a name) continues to excel. There's no letting up or burning off of anything. It's really a very impressive piece of work and I have Shannon to thank for that. I had no clue this crazy cheap ebay find 10+ years ago would ever evolve into such a great mic. Once I get this 'out there' I am going to ask for some folks using it in a real world session, to submit soloed and/or full tracks where they used the mic and post them here. I am in the midst of redo in the space I call 'the lair' at home so it probably will not happen there. Please, be patient, and I will do my best to make it happen ASAP. Thanks y'all! -jrz |
