So, I'm in the process of relocating and rebuilding my studio. I recently built these sand-filled stands: For now, they're on thickish carpet with concrete floor underneath (that will change once renovations get started). They are pretty sturdy for the most part, but can wobble a bit with little effort. I think this is because of the carpet. My question: what's the deal with speaker stand spikes? Would they be warranted in this case (coupling the stands to the concrete floor through the carpet)? I tried looking for answers on the other site, but every thread seemed to break down into dissension and argument with no clear answer. Will spikes be of any value here or just wasted money? Or will they have an adverse effect? What's the deal with three-point spikes?

The spikes will deffinately help on the carpet. You counld mount threaded inserts and then experiment once the reno is done.
The only down side to spikes is when you need to move the stand. It's a pain it the butt since you need to pick them up.

When I've had to use spikes on a wood or pergo-like floor, I've put pennies underneath 'em.
