can you fella's make a suggestions on a very good universal mic stand adaptable stereo xy/ortf micing bar, i've been looking at a couple diff options, but i figured i'd consult the guru's at the RGO machine before i did anything silly 8)

I have the sabre-som one. It's good for SD pencil mics. Don't have any experience with something that could support larger mics.

You're handy, right? I built my own. If you have access to some kind of lathe, then it's pretty easy to make one.
I used a bout 24" of 0.25" stainless rod, and about 6" of 1" diameter aluminum rod.
I went on ebay and got the 5/8-27 die and bottoming tap on ebay for like 5$ each, then turned down the 1" aluminum rod so I could thread about 3/8 of each of the mic mounts. For the center mount I drilled then opened up the hole with a turning bar so I could tap the inside of it about 3/8 deep with threads.
I then drilled a 1/4 hole through the bottoms laterally so the stainless rod can pass through. I drilled and tapped on axis from the opposite side of the threads, so that I could put in a small thumb screw to lock the mic mounts in place anywhere along the stainless rod.
I drilled the center mount laterally as well, on the other end and tapped it for a thumbscrew as well.
Now I can do wide, narrow, ORTF, XY, etc with a single bar on a single boom mic stand.
Cost about 15$ for the materials and tools that I didn't already have.

I almost said DIY but for $30 the AEA with the angle markings for repeatability, well it's just easy !

Thread on GS about these which I think are made in a 3D printer for specific mics... $35. I'm planning on getting one for my mk012s (unless I can convince my friend to sell me the KM84's I've been borrowing from him ) Make sure you measure your mic first, because there are different versions of some of them. www.shapeways.com/shops/srsrecordingservicesI have the sabre-som, but can't really do true ORTF I don't think (at least not with mk012)

I have a Grace Spacebar, the 30cm version. Pretty awesome and rugged, but overkill for most purposes. I bought it on a whim because I didn't want to think about this stuff too much.
But I'm glad I did. Includes a longer mount, which makes precise ORTF/DIN, etc easy. Also has rotational axis at the stand mount and comes with a tape measure, so you pretty much do anything out of the box. Besides ORTF, I use it mainly to mount different sized ribbons and condensers together on guitar amps, and you can align the capsules/elements just right or in configurations impossible with a standard stereo bar, like the K&M I had before.
Plus you can buy the longer bar separately, although it's not cheap either.
