Holy crap...Being a band nerd, I really enjoyed that. Exaggerated, but I was under a few guys about as insane.

I enjoyed the drumming. Sadly, I think a lot of coaches/professors ruin their players love for music, sports etc. This is done at a young age, when people need encouragement more than scorn.

Yeah, thought the music side of it was good. Good to see jazz getting a spotlight once in a while.

Fantastic flick! Really enjoyed it. I keep telling my drummer buddy to check it out, but he's a drummer and of course doesn't listen!

My wife and I were just talking to our friends about this movie. I really enjoyed it but I'd never let someone take the fun out of music for me. Talk about pressure!

I'm not sure many people would put up with that guy in real life...but I definitely had a few nut cases that took the fun out of it.

I haven't seen the movie yet (I'm a drummer so in some sense I already know the story), but THIS PIECE about the movie, and show drumming versus jazz drumming is deep. You may not agree with all of it, but it's in the category of serious "truth telling."

Saw the film and had great expectations. All had spoken that it would be so good, but I did not get any vibes from it. Could be that I've been a bit in the same situation during my young years of tough band leader, I do not know! But I thought the movie was "too much" and the actors played over. Sorry guys, I give only half a drumstick of 5

Yeah, it's a little ludicrous. No one would take that much abuse...but I had kind've avoided it for a while and came in with no expectations. I think that's why I liked it. I played trumpet but was never on those dude's level. Those guys in real life are just freaks.

I think we've all had our share of that type of "band leader" so the movie did bring up some not so fond memories. That whole " cutting " thing got old for me real fast. Imo that's not the way to inspire people. Can you imagine if we treated clients like that!!!lol when I was learning I did draw blood on a couple of occasions so it was nice to see the guy giving blood for his craft!!;-)

I had a couple people in my life that flirted with that kind of behavior, it was retarded, but i didn't realize it at the time, I just need to prove i was up to the challenge, i was in LA, i had the idea that i could be "the best" drummer in the world if i just really wanted it! haha, it's was a really stupid time, and it ultimately made me quit playing drums for a year, then i realized i loved music, came back to music, and have continued to take part in music on my own terms with that love in mind. Mentorship REALLY matters to young people, unfortunately a lot of us at such a naive and impressionable age, have been subject to the tutelage of unconscionable assholes, whose personal baggage and own life failings were dumped upon us.
