Interesting. Once the cassette recorder was introduced, copyright control was weakened irrevocably. They'll have to make amendments, or it'll make all citizens outlaws.
To me, the real issue is streaming formats. When people pay a fee, like $10 to have access to all music, it circumvents the system, and artists cannot make enough money to survive. I have a friend that received a $45 check from Spotify, for 1.4 million downloads of his song.

Microsoft does allow the OS to be backed up in the form of an image of the disk. Most software vendors followed suit and also allow a backup copy. I got tired of reading terms of service agreements, because they basically said the same thing: "one backup copy allowed".

yes... I've read so many that I just skim over the ToS for new software, now. Some very psychotic people write code and I've backed out of some installs because of it. You don't just disagree. In the old days a disagreement over licensing would bring on computer troubles.
Read a .gov Tos for a shocker sometimes. You'll see the kind of people who gravitate towards .gov gigs... Just think, you pass some of those complex psych ward candidates on the street sometimes.

Now the ToS is usually a "lease" if you read carefully. No longer are we the owners of the things we pay for.
