Yeah - this is totally no different than what has already been announced, right? $20 a month to rent the line. Hey - it's a good deal if you don't already own a bunch of them like I do. Hell, I'd prob just rent from now on if I got the wild hair. But I have other plugs I already use for the same uses.

Ok - this video makes more sense. Apparently they sent the wrong video out to current users this morning.

Well? What do you guys think about this? I own one Slate product, the SSD4 Platinum Drums. How are his plugs?

They're good enough. I didn't particularly think I needed the 1176 or eqs since I already had the UAD stuff. I do use VCC on every mix. Like it a lot.

I am really impressed by this, the idea and implementation.
I own VCC VTM Trigger2 CLA and Black bird expansions and apart from trigger occasionally the others don't get much of a run.
But, I love the amount of things for the price, the actual subscription model, being able to suspend and re start.. thats killer...
Also, smart to give owners like me a free run at the newer stuff...
Long term, this kind of thing would have saved me a bundle.
kudos @slate
cheers

I think this is a great deal - the monthly rental I mean. If you want to check out the line for a long term demo to see if you want to buy it. Personally, I have a love/.hate thing with his plugs. Use them a lot at first, and then they give me a bad taste in my mouth after awhile. Used the VCC for awhile, then I abandoned it. (Happily) Using the FG-X and I've just about had it with that one as well. Used others at other studios and could take or leave em.
BUT,
I'd like to try the Relab 480, so I might do a month rental/demo to see how that plays out...
You've got to hand it to Stephen though....he really knows how to hammer down in marketing mode though, eh? heh heh

remember too there are the two $100 coupons so the money paid in the first year lets you buy 1-2 slate plugs at a discount.

I think this sort of thing is in part a response to companies like Klanghelm putting out great plugins for a fraction of the cost. The subscription rate may turn into a good thing. But this seems to be a cross-industry trend, and how many subscriptions can most of us pile up monthly?

Subscriptions are good for developers, and bad (IMO) for users. ESPECIALLY when they bundle everything together like slate. You end up paying (renting) 15 unuseable plugs for the 1 or 2 that you want, and after a year, you could have bought them outright. It's credit, pure and simple, and is all about making people "buy" (rent) more than they need / should. Unfortunately I'm very afraid that this will be the future for a lot of developers because most people are too dumb to figure it out and all they think is "Geez, $19.95 and I get all THAT? AWESOME!!!".

I might rent hardware... never plugins. I don't even look at subscription companies. Adobe... not in this lifetime. There's too many great alternatives to buy outright.

They sound good. Think I might be going this route for awhile. At least the 2 free months

Careful: relab was an add on and you only get "free" months cus you already have the slate plug not certain if relab is included ?
What's free is the use of slate plugs you don't own or have already sold.

Relab is included in the subscription if you do the $25 a month version.
I'm not sure what I think about subscriptions but I get 6 months free so I've got awhile to ponder. Tried the Relab last night. Really is nice.
But man, I find the new EQ (can't remember what they call it) to be remarkable. Amazing how much you can sculpt without it sounding "EQ'd". I'm seriously impressed with it and I can see using it for about 90% of my EQ needs. There's some real stuff goin on under the hood on this one.

I got two months free. What is Gobbler and why is Slate forcing me to use it if I want to check this out? gobbler is great, you can send an entire PT sessions with all the audio files, fade, and session info, in one step, then who ever receives it can just open it up and go!

I got two months free. What is Gobbler and why is Slate forcing me to use it if I want to check this out? Gobbler is an independent file sharing service specifically designed for musicians. You can get I think 5 gigs for free to try it out. You can send complete sessions files to collaborators. I wouldn't have any concerns about it being used by slate; its just an efficient cloud based server system that works very very well.

I remember Slate hyping it when it came out. Saying "our friends at Gobbler" and whatnot. I wouldn't be surprised if he's got an interest in it.
