Is there an off the shelf pc desktop or laptop some can recommend for pro tool native ie: brand ,ram , processor speed I don't have large track counts (24) Mostly out the box or would an mac.mini i5 with loaded ram work well enough? Around 1200 dollar budget must be new computer not used Thanks for . the help

I bought my i7 Mac mini with 16gb ram and ssd from tiger direct (I think) for like $1100.

It will be of better quality and upgradeable at a much cheaper cost than anything off the shelf. I checked the site Bob mentioned, and they seem on top of the game. If you prefer the Apple OS, it's the same thing. Have someone put you a Hackintosh PC together and you'll have a lot more power than what Apple will sell with a sane price to performance ratio. Anything off of the shelf PC-wise is going to get you locked into proprietary formats in regard to component size and connector arrangement. Upgrading can be very costly to prohibitively rational, in that it would be better to start from scratch in some instances. Also, you'll find the cheapest components known to man in over the counter PCs. It's better than it used to be, but still...

Thanks all i completely did a 180 found a 2012 mac. Mini i7 quad core 2.6 8gig ram 600 dollars it will be all i need thanks again

I wouldn't go the hackintosh route because Apple has been doing frequent massive security upgrades lately. Mac minis seem fine but can make quite a bit of noise if you push them. I don't think you get the free windows 10 upgrade with a mac installation.

Mini i7 quad core 2.6 8gig ram 600 dollars it will be all i need thanks again Spend your savings on SDDs and adding RAM I have found that the guys at OWC are right having double the RaM Apple says is Max is a very cheap way to increase the performance in any Mac !
