This is interesting. BAE Audio, manufacturer of audio equipment faithful to vintage design specifications, introduces its latest sonic creation: the B15 multi-band equalizer. The B15, which ships this month and is priced at $1,000, delivers sonic attributes of the classic 312 circuit in an economically efficient and compact 500 series package. The new B15 EQ is an all-discrete design, featuring three bands with (5) selectable frequencies per band. Created to BAE Audio's discriminating vintage specifications, the build and performance of the B15 does not disappoint, complete with Jensen transformers at the input & output stage, Elma gold plated rotary switches and a 15-way gold connector for longer life. The aesthetics of the B15 are equally as sleek, featuring custom-machined aluminum knobs set against a classic matte black housing. "We are very proud of our latest 500 series creation," commented BAE Audio President and Founder Mark Loughman. "When people listen to the new B15, they may recognize a 'punchy' sound characteristic, reminiscent of the classic 312 circuit. The B15 is built with Jensen transformers, and includes other unique touches such as a fully discrete gyrator circuit. People will not only feel the difference of the B15, but hear it as well." The B15 is the latest in BAE Audio's 500 series. Last month, the company announced its 1073MPL 500 series preamplifier, which delivers the 'larger than life' sound of the 1073 available in an impossibly small package. For equipment manufacturers, designing and building high quality 500 series modules is often ripe with challenges, given the significantly reduced physical space. With the B15, the 1073MPL and its other 500 series units, BAE Audio has maintained a very high manufacturing standard, as each of its units are hand-wired and assembled in California. The B15 is available now through BAE Audio's network of authorized dealers, and carries a retail price of $1,000.

It's not the API 312, for obvious reasons. What is it?

Wish there were more midrange options. pretty sure it's the API 550a If that's the case, why not just spend the extra $15 on a real 550A that features more frequencies, ya know?

The Capi is $420. And you could pay someone $150 to put it together.

Strange to come out with this instead of the companion EQ for the Neve 1073 unit

Well - I have no idea, but Joel charges $100 to do an FC526. Nothing about that makes any sense, unless he's running an audio charity. If so, how can I apply, and why did I bother building my own? : )

Well, I'm not making it up. Facebook him. He's the head tech at 3rd Power amps here in Nashville. It's very possible he could charge more than that for the EQ...but maybe you should check into it. www.facebook.com/JoelsGuitarRepair

Based on my time for a parallel pair of FC526, he must like making $11/hr or less. If he builds one perfectly, no problems, no troubleshooting. Maybe that's just Nashville for ya.

Those third power amps look awesome, but your post makes me "Allow me to introduce my self Wild E Coyotee, suuupper Genius" But I do know the type , it's like therapy to build em and the cash is a bonus.

I sold mine for $575, so I made a little over $200 on it. I know just from my experience, I wouldn't had taken hardly any less than that for it. It took a little while to build and calibrate that one. I think BAE is riding on it's success and name a little on this one though. API circuits are not insanely complex or full of parts, they are very simple. That seems like a very high price to me.

Well - I have no idea, but Joel charges $100 to do an FC526. I know this is off topic but I have to chime in and vouch for Joel as well. He built 2 VP28's for me. He charged me $75/piece for the VP's and $20/piece for each op amp. Total price = $284.99+$75+$35(for the op amp kits)+$40(to build the op amps) = $435 per VP28 build. He also sent me pics of the build process now and then, answered my texts quickly and is just a truly terrific guy to know. He is very proud of his work and build quality. I think these are just easy fun for him. Those 3rd Power Amps are masterpieces. Get in touch with him via Facebook if you want him to build a VP28 or FC526.........

It's an outlier, I've never heard of any tech working so cheap. Makes no sense, especially for anyone who actually has work. More power to him. None of this is a comment on the work, I don't know him nor have seen his work. Remember Jeff's authorized builder charges $750 for an FC526; that number makes sense.

B15: freqs are different from the API types, appears to switch to low and high shelving, no bandpass filter setting, 312 reference is purely mention of the output amp circuit type, nothing terribly different from the other API types, gyrator circuit so more like 550B (correct me if I'm wrong) and nothing like an LC53A inductor type circuit. It is unique, do you need it, who knows?

I know, I actually hesitated before posting but I did ask Joel if he wanted me to spread the word and he said he wouldn't mind one bit......as much as I would selfishly like to keep him a secret, I figured it was the least I could do for a guy like Joel
