in your prayers. As some of you might know, he heads up highway maintenance and construction for a company around the Ohio/Kentucky border...several days ago, one of his close friends and coworkers was killed in a tragic accident on the site they were working. Herbie had known him for 30+ years and hired him several years ago. I've spoken to Herbie and he's having a really tough time with it right now. So - keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Will do.
We just got back from a pretty long road trip and I was amazed at the way people drove through construction zones, very sorry to hear this happened.

Awful news. Sorry to hear it.
It just seems that it's been a rough week. Yesterday morning my 18 year old niece overdosed on Heroin and was pronounced brain dead. We pulled the plug yesterday afternoon. It has not been a week for good news at all.
Sorry to hear about it Cowboy - sucks losing such a long time friend.
Keeping everyone in my prayers...

Ionian and Cowboy, I'm so sorry to hear about such senseless loss. It's never easy to lose people so close, let alone so abruptly. Unfortunately it's a pain that too many of us know all too well. I was just remembering this week that it had been 13 years since my high school roommate, band mate and original partner in recording crime passed away by his own hand after many years of health problems and addiction that was brought on by a motorcycle wreck. There was a lot of trauma and anguish in the years after the wreck leading up to his passing, but I don't find myself remembering that - those memories faded very quickly; now I only recall the great times and laughs we shared over the years.
I know it can take a lot of time to sift through the pain but I sincerely hope there's some solace in the memories of the joy that those lost have brought you.

What can we say to that ? So sorry man, that's the worse but it reminds me of a story many years ago A girl I knew calls me in hysterics "My grand mothers sick, she's going to die" " We all get sick ,most don't die" "She's in the hospital she's going to die" " not everybody in a hospital dies" She's in ICU she's going to die " "OK she's not good but people get better in the ICU" We are pulling the plug tomarrow at 1 o'clock " "OK Cat your grandmothers going to die"

In my real life, I am a Lieutenant on an engine company for the Austin Fire Department at one of our downtown stations.
Fire doesn't scare me. People in cars scare me. I am never more concerned for the well being of my crew than on vehicle rescues and traffic injuries. I guess its just physics - mass times speed and all.
My firefighters take care of the citizens. My job is to take care of my firefighters. I can't imagine the heartbreak of this. it is truly the definition of my worst day on the job.
I don't pray, but I sure as hell will have you in my thoughts. Please know you have a lot of brothers and sisters who understand.
Matt

I should absolutely state that I meant in the context of my profession, with the benefit of 100 lbs of gear, thermal imaging cameras, lots of water and a bunch of other professionals who have my back. Without that, it is as utterly terrifying as it has been throughout human history. Thank you for making me clarify : ).
