I want something with good isolation and true to the source. I have the Shure SRH840's, and Beyerdynamics T770's. The Shure's don't sound that bad but they are a little harsh, and with forward mids and highs. The Beyer's sound scooped. I also have some older Ultrazones, but they have disintegrated ear pads and I haven't used them in a while. I need a recommendation on a good pair of headphones. Thanks.

Try the Extreme Isolation 25 dB phones. They sound very similar to the Shure 940's I have, they just don't go as low or hi. More comfortable then the 30 dB versions as the ear cups are correctly sized for over ear, and they sound much better.

I use the extreme isolation ones...
I have had some people complain that they are too tight, especially if you wear glasses... so I have a set of DT100s laying about.
I really really like the Extremes.. I can place mics on guitar caps and snare etc with confidence with them, maybe thats cause I am so used to them.
I also bought replacement cups for mine a year or so back.
cheers

I have several pairs of the Extreme Isolation phones. They aren't my favorites sonically, but they are solid, they seal very well and are the only headphones that I know of that are truly repairable when something happens.

I was using Shure high end earbuds, with additional industrial ear muffs over it. That gave some serious isolation, with quite natural tone.
Best, M

They look like a modified version of the Extreme Isolation 30dB headphones. If they use the same ear cup, I can tell you they will kill your ears after less then an hour.

Surprised no ones mentioned the AT m50's. They're my favorite by a good margin. I've got AKG 240s, Senn 280s and the Extreme Isolarion EX29s, all of which are good for various things. But the AT m50s are the shit for all around great cans (in my opinion).

I've had a few pairs of the Extreme Isolation EX29 for quite a while. Good isolation and they sound pretty good after I changed the drivers to the newer version. The guy who runs Extreme actually answered the phone when I called and took the time to talk with me on the process as there had been some changes in the ear cup. I've never had a pair break but it's nice to know I can just order parts instead of replacing them. Sometimes I'll use my Shure IEM's also.

Extreme Isolation EX-29. Best isolation I ever had and I track really loud.I used M50s before, but always had leakage and they sounded really muffled compared to the EX-29.

There was either something wrong with the M50's or your EX29's sound completely different than mine. EX29's have way better Isolarion, no question. Its their whole thing. But they're (at least my pairs are) quite a bit more bandwidth limited than the M50's.

I have a few pairs of cad dh100s here. Isolate well, sound ok, and most importantly cheap!! 40$ on amazon. The expensive cans are for my head and my head only.

The original EX-29's had pretty mediocre drivers which have been updated in newer models. When I swapped out the old ones there was a pretty big improvement in sound.

Ahh interesting. Mine are definitely nothing to write home about sound wise.

I think I 'mo' pick me up a set of EX29s and pair them up against the senn HD280s - both turned up to bust - and see which pair has the least leakage.

Much more comfortable. Then open them up and coat the inside of the ear cup with plumber's puddy. Dramatic improvement. The other trick is that you need to change the pads out often, since the harden over time.

I tested the senn HD280pro's, AT M50x over the weekend...I really like the ATM50x, nice and balanced and smooth. They sounded better than my Shure srh 840's. The 280's sounded really good for the price.

Since there is a ton of people listening to music almost exclusively on earbuds these days, svart, there is very good reason to listen to your mixes and masters on earbuds!

That's very true, and part of the reason I do so, besides not wanting to disturb others at work.. I've also just found these cheap earbuds to sound excellent, even compared to some of my much more expensive earbuds and headphones.

How is the comfort level on these? I have some JVC and Apple earbuds that feel terrible in my ear holes, but my Sennheiser IE6 feel nice.
