I had a symphony when I first bought the RM1794. I thought the RM DA sounded better than the Symphony...and I think the Svartbox sounds a little better than the RM.

First, let me say thats its truly refreshing to read genuine, objective, honest opinions on gear and techniques. Ive given up on that other gear site because researching anything always seems to lead to more confusion and head scratching.
With that said, a few questions for you Svart:
Interested in an ad/da
1. Have you settled on a price yet?
2. Digital I/O ? Rca spdif and toslink?
3. How do I get on the list?

Ive given up on that other gear site because researching anything always seems to lead to more confusion and head scratching. With that said, a few questions for you Svart: Interested in an ad/da 1. There are a couple threads in the DIY section that have a lot of information on both the design and the pricing/sales stuff. Quick answers though: 1. 800$ for both the ADC and DAC in a chassis. 400$ for either a ADC or DAC in a chassis. 2. RCA/Coax SPDIF only. Most soundcards I've seen only have RCA SPDIF, so I decided to settle on that. 3. There is a list in the DIY section, I can't remember what the name of the thread is though. I'm going to make one batch of 10 to start, then another batch of 10 a month later to fulfill the lists. After that I plan on switching to having these made for me and having 20-30 made and offering them for sale on a website. I should be able to sustain stock at that point if sales stay up. If sales don't stay up, I might just go back to building a few by hand at a time to satisfy needs. |

I think maybe it should be locked for now since it has more orders than I can fill in the first batches. We'll clean that one up or start a new one once I get the first orders fulfilled. |

I mean no disrespect to JK at all, we all know he's great, but dandeurloo needs to get his hands on the svartbox to put up against his RM ADDA superbeast for some comps. to be very clear, I'm routing for svarts box to kick total ass on everything out there! I hope that dandeurloo will be willing to do some testing. I'll have john send the unit to him next if he's willing to compare the two for us. Of course I would be up to it. I ended up slightly modding my Superbeast as well. I was able to get a little more depth and and 3D out of it. It also made the unit more full sounding as well. I told Ross about the mods I did. I have no idea if he is going to add those to his new Superbeast. |

tracked some bass through the AD and it was absolutely a mirror image of what it sounded like in the room. I'm doing some more tracking in the next three days.

And after comparing the DA more, the Svartbox is definitely the wider and deeper of the two. Again - nothing wrong with the 1794 - and the Superbeast might be very, very similar - but against the 1794 I could objectively say that the Svartbox is better.
