Yummy! A pair of these and a pair of CAPI comps are on my wishlist. Formally I'm already on a waiting list for Arny's Helios comp in 500 format, but I'm not sure if it will ever get into production. But anyway, as long as the Dollar is crazy expensive I'll wait.

Edit: I just checked KMR in the UK and they list it as New product and says: "500-series of the compression circuit of the legendary compex" |

Hey Guys - thanks for the interest. We're still in 'wait mode' for various custom parts, so no exact release date yet. There will not be an expander in this version since it would have required two slots, but I have thought about the E900 EQ in 500 format to work with it. It would have appropriate switching to run it linked to the Compex500 like a 'Vocal Stressor'. Not sure if there is enough interest in that functionality however.

Honestly, the only thing that has held me back is the unbalanced ins/outs on the stock version. Can a unit be modified with the transformer option, and what does this do to the sonic character? Or, is the unbalanced design critical to the sound of the F760X? Thanks, Matt |

I haven't checked in on this thread for a while. I'm using Jensen transformers for the balanced version, although Cinemag makes great transformers that will also fit; I just had more demand for Jensen for some reason. The Jensens do not seem to change the sound of the Compex much at all; no complaints in the few that have sold with the balanced option. It does give you an extra 6dB of headroom which is nice. I tried to make it relatively easy to add transformers without any major disassembly. The latest chassis have pre-punched holes for both input and output transformers. The earlier chassis had only holes for the output's.

Thanks, Matt The hyperbole on the balanced thing is cresting so high... the levee is in danger of breaking 8) seriously, if the piece of gear you're plugging your balanced cable into isn't FULLY differential in it's design(95% of the gear we use including mega $ consoles), then it's mostly bs. Long runs are good cause, but if you use good cabling and you don't hear noise, there is no noise. Also the cheap drivers most commonly used to balance signals often stomp the shit out of the sound Q, especially in the hi end, the balance input on the GFA555 pro sounds like ass compared to the unbalanced RCA's, and the amp sounds insanely good through the RCA's, especially after Jwilliams does his thing(balancing not being one of them 8) |

Yep it's only been the last 10 years that have gone from Balanced? Why add a stage if you don't need it ? To It must be balanced! Balanced is always best ! Its funny everyone wants tranformered Compex's but from my understanding.. the 12 that I have owned and the other people I have talked to about theres. Most of them that were sold originally seem to not have them and it hasnt stopped anyone of those dudes from making great records.

Hi Guys,
I'm still waiting on a custom part. It's unfortunate that I have no choice but to depend on others to get certain things done. Emails and phone calls go unanswered. One supplier strung me along for three months before telling me "Sorry, we don't have time for this project right now." - so I had to then start over finding a vendor for that part. That was about a year ago, now I'm getting the silent treatment from another supplier. It can be a frustrating business!.
When it's finally shipping, it won't be a secret!

At long last Q2 Audio is finally shipping F765's (the "Compex 500")! This thing is a year overdue... but I think it was worth it. Even I think it looks cool as hell and I'm about as jaded as it gets when it comes to gear. The last few weeks were torture, waiting on the last parts (which were 6 weeks late) was difficult to say the least. I spent that time assembling PCB's and getting as much other stuff ready as I could. They will initially be available though Vintage King and possibly other dealers as well.
In other related news, I've just put up a demo video of the 2U Compex re-issue where we used it on every track to show that it's not just a drum box, but can do subtle compression as well. The mics were all Mesanovic ribbons.
