My prayers go out to you. I'm sorry to hear this. Two years ago my father had a stroke walking up the stairs. He fell down the stairs and hit his head at the bottom. When he regained consciousness, he had no idea who my mother or I were, didn't know the date. An ambulance arrived and as they were enroute to the hospital he had a massive seizure and went into a coma. He was in the coma for a week. The doctors weren't optimistic. He had bleeding on the brain (because of his blood thinners). After a week he came out of the coma and had no idea who anyone was or what the date was. The doctor assured us that this was permanent, especially since right before the seizure he had no idea who we were so he assumed the damage had been done. For a week straight we visited him and he had no idea who we were. He's watched British TV all his life though so he kept talking to Judi Dench. He had no idea who we were but kept talking to an empty chair and saying things like, "Judi! How nice of you to come all the way from England to visit me!" After a few days of this my mother had started making plans to have him put in a care facility. She had finished the paperwork and was working on the payment details. I'm not around because I tour a lot as a sideman and my mother works full time so we couldn't bring him home in that condition. After a week, my sister Lynn was visiting him (which she had done already) and all of a sudden he just said, "Lynn...what are you doing here?" And like that his full memory was back. He had no recollection from the fall to that point. But just like someone threw a switch after a week his memory was completely back. He didn't know he'd been in the hospital for over 2 weeks, or been in a coma, or that he was talking to Judi Dench. It was like his brain just jump started or something after two weeks. My mother cancelled the plans to have him put in a home and that was that. Two years ago. Thankfully he had no paralysis from the stroke and no real problems from the bleeding on the brain. The only thing is his balance is bad now so he has to use a cane. Sorry if I rambled too much - the point is that the human body is an amazing machine and sometimes when it looks like all is lost on the surface, it's because the body is working overtime behind the scenes to get the engine running again and doesn't let you know until it's ready. My prayers go out to you in this trying time. Regards, Frank this is a good ending to your story Frank, and nice to hear! After i found out about Peter's daughter, i did some reading about amnesia, and it seems it is often the case that people who suffer from it suddenly "reappear" (so to speak) after some time passes. It's like the brain shuts down the injured areas, and puts them into a protected, suspended state for healing, and then only refires the areas after they're fully done healing and ready to go, the length of time can range between minutes to months depending upon the severity of the concussion. I certainly hope this is the case, Peter is a top notch human being, and a great new found friend, I know as a fact he would give the shirt off of his back to any one of us in need, He and his family seriously deserve the best possible outcome here. Talked to a top Neuro guy who's also the husband of one of my old PTs, It all comes down to what they feel the cause of the memory loss is. Without knowing the case he wouldn't give odds but he did say that being as she's so young in general she stands a pretty good chance of getting most of her memory back ( after 6months in a coma I still can't remember some shit yet I remember the black guy from 2 Broke Cirls was one of Al's buddy's on Married with children)

Wiz I'm so sorry to hear this...I'm not a religious person, but I'll keep your daughter and family in my thoughts. I don't have much to say other than I know you're doing everything you can, so...give yourself that credit at the very least. As hard as this is...you're being a real father, and some people never get that much out of their dad.

I'm so sorry to hear of this Wiz, and I'm sending you and your family love and light. I don't speak of it much, but I've been through some things that few come away from, and I guarantee you that your daughter can and will most likely heal.

Thank you everyone... It means more than you could imagine.
In between the tears and worry, there has been the odd laugh... My daughters wicked sharp sense of humour is still there...
In the hospital I went to get her a chocolate milk... I grabbed some coffee drink by mistake... I gave it to her to drink, she made a disgusted face at the taste and put it down.
Then she asked me if I wear glasses, I replied I do for reading...
Dead pan she says....
" how about you take them with you next time"
I can't take that she knows anything for granted... She doesn't... It's very strange.
Still, could be much much worse
Thanks again
Wiz

My dad was a neurosurgeon and certainly believed in the body's ability to heal ! He was especially dedicated to testing its ability to metabolize Gin: everyday he would personally test this with large samples Hang in their Wiz" better days are comin " cue Martin's song !

Hi wiz, frightening story, and i can imagine it is a terrifying situation for you seeing a beloved child in amnesia state. I once had a severe concussion after a hard hit on the forehead that struck me against a concrete wall, with loss of consciousness for unknown time, giving me the worst headache of my life where i had to lay flat for 3 weeks to avoid possible permanent brain damage. After such accidents, amnesia is quite common and in many, many cases totally reversible except a certain time around the trauma, but it can take days or several weeks until memory "fills up" with all content again. Keep up good faith and take your time for the family these days. Love and caring and hopefully time will do the rest to bring your daughter back to full health again. Sending best wishes and good vibes from the opposite end of the world, hoping all turns out well in the end.
Martin

Again, thank you everyone for your encouragement and support. Rikki is home with us she came home on Saturday after discussion with all the hospital staff. she is in good spirits, and it is a weird situation with her knowing one thing then not knowing the next. for instance she can't tell me what certain make up materials or implements are..but is incredibly deft at using it. Doctors told me that would be the case, eg not be able to name what a guitar is, but be able to play it. we went out today for lunch and some driving about and walks by the beach etc. she saw a kangaroo and had no idea what it was... two of her friends visited her last night and it was great to hear laughter in the house. here is photo of her and I , wth the dog, Bowie , photobomb ins us out the front of our home today. wiz, as the father of a little girl as well this is heartbreaking and my families prayers will have your family in them buddy. It breaks my heart, I know how it feels if they even scratch their leg, that feeling of doing anything you can to take away the pain or issue. Hang in there buddy, you've got some good people saying prayers for you. I pray for a speedy and fast healing, in Gods name brother. ~ Jerome

Similar to Martin, I had an injury when I was around 10/11 years old. Running around the neighborhood on a rainy day ( kids used to play outside, remember ? ) I slipped in the mud, went feet to the sky and back of head came down on a stone pathway. Was out cold for a minute or two. Of course, all the other kids were laughing. ( I was told all this later, BTW - have no recollection at all ). Walked home feeling nauseous and was asking Mom all kinds of questions: who are they? What's that? , etc. She said that she would have thought I was kidding except for the mud/blood on my back and I was white as a ghost. Rushed me to Hospital, where I stayed almost two weeks, enduring all kinds of tests. Finally came about, and all has been good.

Great pic of you and your daughter wiz. Feels good to see you two smiling! I was telling my wife your story yesterday and it sparked a long conversation about family, love, perspective, living in the moment and gratitude. I'm not a religious person but I believe that the power to heal and overcome is within us if we stay positive and remain clear on what it is we need and ask for. Sending very positive thoughts your way throughout each and every day since I read your first post. You're a great guy and we all see it here - I'm sure that this isn't lost on any of the loved ones who surround you! Take care of yourself buddy!

It is very difficult for me to type this, as my nose is running and tears are flowing.
Rikki Lee has started to remember.
Not all at once, but lots. Things she has been unable to remember, dates, people, places and items are coming back. Things she couldn't remember just started to come back!!!!!
She said she felt things start to clear and asked her mum to start asking her things.
All three of us in tears and hugging.
I want to extend my unending thanks to those who prayed, sent vibes, positive energy, danced naked in the moon light 8) or whatever your leaning is.. thank you.
Of course its early days and we have to see specialists etc
But, things are much better than they were.
thank you all
Expect a big hug from me when I see you guys... possibly tears as well.
cheers
Wiz
