I found a link to this on the other site: stamaudio.com/home/sa2a.htmlIt's made in Chile. Stock price will be $990 dollars but for those who pre-order the first 100 units it will be $790. Have any of you guys had any dealings with Stam audio, or even heard of it? This looks intriguing, assuming Stam is not a Scam.

I've dealt with joshua, the owner, many years back, when he was living in argentina. I was buying a 002 from him. After giving him a downpayment (since the 002 was allegedly in chile) he went silent and it took me a lot of grief and hardwork to get that money (well, most of it) back. Maybe, he has changed his ways in the time being, but i cannot recommend him as a vendor.
Just my .02 cents..

Hello everyone,
Thanks Lesc for posting our new product here. I'm glad that word has been spreading and we have been getting quite a few orders. I know that we are an unknown brand for most of the guys in the US and Europe, hence we offer a 30 day money back guarantee policy for all orders. There will be a review coming out soon from Sound on Sound on our SA-2A and upcoming 1073MP. In the meantime you can check out some pics and speak to our clients on our facebook page, I have been manufacturing and selling for a few years now, not a single unit has been returned. (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Stam-Audio/222658027858006)
With regards to the last comment, I have sent a private message to bluenoise. I don't know who he is but I do remember selling my DIGI 002 about 8 years ago to one of the students in Argentina, however, I do not recall going silent or not returning the money I allegedly took for it, I have never had this kind of behaviour and never will. Perhaps this is a missunderstanding and I would be happy if we can clarify it.
Regards, Joshua

Internal power or wall wart?

Post by Ward on Mar 13, 2015 5:25:23 GMT -6
Internal power or wall wart? An external would be completely impractical unless it was like the Vintech or BAE power supplies. Being a tube/valve unit, there are large power requirements that would make a simple "wall-wart" PSU completely impractical or unfeasible. And on another note... since Chile is a charter member of NAFTA (The North American Free Trade Agreement), that means buying direct without import duties, customs or other bullshit.

Hi Cowboycoalminer,
Internal toroidal transformer. As well explained by ward, there are large power requirements in a tube driven compressor. There is a switch on the back of the unit that changes from 110V to 220V.
Thanks, Joshua

And on another note... since Chile is a charter member of NAFTA (The North American Free Trade Agreement), that means buying direct without import duties, customs or other bullshit. I think this is supposed to be true. Unfortunately, when I receive stuff from the States (into Canada), it depends on the carrier used. USPS seems to be great. With the others I get all kinds of bullshit, so I never know what the final price will be if I can't specify USPS.

Hi Lesc,
I ship with standard or priority mail, they don't add fees like DHL and Fedex do. The final price depends on your local VAT. I am happy to work around this with my customers. (Thanks for the warm welcome!)
By the way, I have just been in contact with bluenoise via private message. I have evidence (emails and calls) of trying to refund him only 4 days after the downpayment and apologizing due to the sudden death of a family member. I don't want to create a situation out of this but I don't think his comment was fair.
Regards, Joshua

How quickly after payment will they be shipped?

Hi Mr.1000
Release date for those who pre-order is the 28th of May. 100 T4B cells and chassis take a while to manufacture, plus we solder everything by hand and calibrate each unit in our workshop.
To reserver a unit I request a small downpayment (USD100) that will be deducted from the final price.
I have a batch of 100 units for pre-orders, 47 left after 5 days, so this might run out quick. I know it's a bit of a wait but 790 dollars for an LA-2A clone with premium components and NOS tubes is a very good deal, my production cost is almost 600 dollars on these units.
Regards,
Joshua

Considering this is coming from out-of-country, requires a deposit, a member has brought up a previous encounter and the manufacturer that is unknown to myself - I would stress "buyer beware." No offense...

I'm totally game for betting on this and giving it a good try. If it is anything like the Pro Replicas Bluestripe I bought, I'll be as happy as a pig in a pen!! Kindest regards, Ward

Just replied Ward, cheers!
I just spoke with John via private message. The only reason I request a downpayment is to be certain that you will collect your unit when it's done.
You can contact Drip Electronics or David Geren at Cinemag and confirm that we have been doing business for a while.

FWIW, a couple months ago, PayPal changed their rules and now allow purchase protection for up to 180 days. In theory, if paying via PayPal, if your compressor never arrives, you could file a complaint and get your money back. Can't be sure that it would work out, but it's a little extra safety. Hey stam, Any pics of the innards?

Yes, inside pics coming soon! I had a few units but since I am always a little behind schedule I ship them as soon as they are ready. 2 more units will be available in a few weeks, I will make some videos and take extra pictures. The SA-2A used to be called LA-2B. Since then I made some improvements particularly designing customs transformers with David Geren from Cinemag to match the frequency response of the original UTC'S and increased the handling level. I also added NOS tubes, a stereo link option and the +4 -GR knob. Picture of the old LA-2B: www.facebook.com/222658027858006/photos/a.227146454075830.1073741825.222658027858006/275364792587329/?type=1&theater

can we see the guts? I wouldn't suggest anyone moving forward on this or any piece of gear until some resident experts here get a look inside, I'm not suggesting anything's wrong or isn't worthy, i'm saying cautious verification is in order before dropping any $ 8)
thanx

I will upload inside pics in a few weeks, unfortunately the last ones I built are not in Chile anymore and I am waiting on some components from the US as we speak.
Thanks to everyone that has pre-ordered.

I just want to reiterate that since I don't have any relationship or prior knowledge of this company or product that RGO is not responsible for any deals that go down between you and the manufacturer. It is in the rules at the top of the forum. I'm certainly trying to be fair here, but I think a fair amount of buyer beware has to be advised.
