Just got some quotes: U47s- ranging in price from $15K to $16,750.00 U67 - $9750.00 C12 - $17,995.00. New Telefunken Ela M 251E- $11,995.00 ...OK, back in the "real world"...here's my .02c for what it's worth (probably about .02c)...after looking at your current microphone list on the gear page of your studio website, I'd make you a simple recommendation...sell both of your Peluso tube mics (Peluso 2247SE, Peluso P12, both of which are "inspired by" mics rather than "clones") and commission either Tony or Shane (Cat5) to build you an Ioaudio MK-47 and a MataChung C12, then send both mics to Shannon Rhoades for final voicing (specifically voicing the C12 with Sinsay's "251" magic!) and don't look back... ...this way you will end up with 2 world-class tube mics that will cost a mere fraction of those ridiculous prices, and the new mics will be reliable, easily serviceable and you won't have to fear breaking one out for a client when requested...your insurance company will also appreciate this option... ...and, since you'll be way ahead of the curve at these pricepoints, consider throwing in a Poctop M49b or M269c (or both!) in the equation, with Sinsay's final tweaks of course...your studio will become legendary in the neighborhood, trust me... ...rant over!

Yeah but admit it you were once just as insane ! Nope. Never got that insane. Not even close. I'm a working musician / producer / composer / engineer who's got to make critical decisions that can easily sink the ship. I make 100% of my living off MAKING music, so 7, 10, 15k mics are out of the question as I ain't no superstar. I've got no need or ability for those types of extravagances. That's superstar or trust fun baby levels of cash I'm afraid.....

Just got some quotes: U47s- ranging in price from $15K to $16,750.00 U67 - $9750.00 C12 - $17,995.00. New Telefunken Ela M 251E- $11,995.00 I don't think those prices you quoted are realistic. There is only one place that can get that kind of money for those mics. I wish it was since I got into all 3 of those for way less dough than that. In all reality, for normal top dollar street prices you are more looking at $13k5 for a U47, $8500 for a U67 and prolly closer to 47 money for the C12 or most likely less. Keep in mind that many of the high end mics they sell are done so on a commission basis and you are paying a premium for that. I know where there's a U47 for sale at $13k5. Its from LA but is in Nashville at the moment so maybe you could get Shannon and Jerome to evaluate it for you? U67's are fairly easy to find these days if you are a little patient. C12's are a different story though as they rarely seem to come up. Maybe that's why VK is pushing their value above a U47? Thanks for replying Jeff. Yeah, I don't expect to pay that price. I just got those quotes. In my former salesman life, I know that people get to the real value when they know they're going to lose the sale if they don't budge off their first quote.

Vintage King was simply fantastic to deal with - one of my very first purchases from VK Detroit was a Vintage U48. I felt fairly confident I wanted the 47 sound, but rarely use omni patterns (conversely, I seem to use figure 8 a lot). However, I wasn't sure I "needed" a Vintage model. I has listened to a bunch of the clones and thought the Telefunken reissue was pretty terrific.
VK sent me a Telefunken reissue and a serviced Vintage U48 to demo. I thought that was incredibly generous, as I was a pretty new customer. However, it was the only true way to feel confident regarding the purchase. I was able to test it on a few people and sources. While it wasn't as clear but as one would imagine (they both sounded fantastic, and a couple of times the Reissue was preferred) I kept the vintage 48.
The Vintage 48 is one of only two things I've never questioned after - I'm sure this has a lot to do with the thorough demo I was able to do in my own place with my own gear.
So, short story long, I certainly recommend establishing a relationship with VK. The peace of mind, knowledge and deep inventory offset any savings that might be found from an independent seller - at least for big ticket stuff.

It went for a great price too! It was 'Best Offer' under $7500. Considering that they sell for about $9000 "new"... and it prolly went for $6500, that's an excellent deal. This is one HELL of a microphone.

This is one HELL of a microphone. ...as stated in the item description, it's "not a reissue Elam 251", but then it says "38 hours of studio use" (since restoration maybe?)...a bit confusing...based on the rest of the info, it appears to have been restored (possibly by Bill Bradley)...so an original for under $7500?...

Agreed. Seemed confusing, that's why I suggested reaching out rather than buying. If it wasn't miles from my price bracket, I would have reached out myself.
