drbill - I think he said it was kit only. I've got a guy that will put them together super cheap. Jeff knows him and can vouch for him. Can he build me a pair of VP 28's?

Price: TBD Isn't that gear dealer speak for "Let's see how badly you want these and how much you're willing to pay"? LOL... I'm only kidding!! That's only true of the big guys.

I think Jeff is one of the big guys at this point. It seems like A LOT of people at using CAPI. There are probably more CAPI pieces in the wild than a lot of other "boutique" stuff.

Finally got my pair built. Very impressed. Both how the build is laid out, how precisely everything fits and then of course the sound. Tried some moderate to heavy drum crushing w 1731s inside. Just great. Then tried Red dots on ac guitar with moderate setting. Equally good. So I join the choir saying how versatile these are. Again, very very impressed.

They are freaking stellar. Damnit, unit7 - I want one of those t-shirts. I'd love to make one for you and send, but I wasn't too pleased with the quality. Must have been only partly cotton, so a little 'swetty', or perhaps my body reacted on the slogan, hard to tell . Anyway, I'd prefer to email the file instead so you could do it yourself, right size colour etc. And again, I second 'freaking stellar'. I'm d*mning the Dollar for being 40% up recently, but still find myself browsing my 500 racks to see how I could squeeze in 2-4 more of these..

I need some help identifying what options of opamps there are and what you would use for what source.
What opamp options are there?
What opamps would you use for mix buss duty?
What opamps would use for the vocal chain?
From what I have gathered you can use this on any source and get stellar results.
Please advise.
Thanks guys

With my little experience perhaps I'm not the right person to answer..but.. besides that it totally depends on what your tracks need, and what *you* like.. when I A/B'd 1731 and red dots on ac guit, I felt the red dots sounded a tad more 'contemporary Nashville' and the 1731s more 70's. Haven't tried the IC op amps though, believe they are supposed to be even less color. Then there are the possibilities to combine... then there's the Litz xformer option... d*mn you Jeff! Edit: When I A/B'd, one unit was a bit off and not properly calibrated, so there was a different in tone because of that. After fixing that, and A/B'ing between RD and GAR1731 I could hardly spot any difference on acoustic, moderate to medium GR.

It's all pretty subtle. I thought the RD's had more bottom end and a little more saturation on top, so a little more colored than the 1731's. I ultimately went for the more clean option in the compressors, but I have red dots in all of my mic pres.

I'm half way through these builds, i'm having an inkling to try the AD4898 op amps in these with an adapter card for giggles??? They should be compatible if the lme49710 works(as it should considering it's one of the options from Jeff 8). Probably make them super fast and transparent...? pure speculation of course...
btw, i have lme49710's, gar 1731's, 2520's and red dots to try as well, how fun!

I tried GAR 1731's, GAR 2520's, Red Dots, and another type of DOA. I found the differences pretty major "sonically" (not compression wise), with the most "different" sounding opamp being the Red Dot.
